Selling & How your app survives & Marketing

Hello!

I'm a developer and I want to sell my apps online. The developer fee is 99 dollar annualy. If your name and app is unknown on the market. How can users find and buy your app? Does apple marketing system allow people to find your app anyway? Will people buy it? Do I need to market it myself to get my first user? I want to sell my app on apple market.

I'm thinking about marketing and how your app takes place in the market once you upload your app online. I am starting to think you actually need marketing for it to get any users at all. What do you think? If you don't market it, how can users find your app? Some marketing is needed? Is it enough with the listing in the apple market or with posting it on various forums for it to start growing in userbase, or do you think you have to pay for marketing in order to make it grow in userbase at all? Of course it depends on your app but in general what do you think about launching your app and to get people to use it if your app is unknown.

Any ideas?

Yes, in general, marketing is required to get any customers for a new app. If your keywords are unique enough and yet still correspond to things for which some number of users actually search, you might get some small number of organic app installs without marketing. Otherwise, without marketing, the odds of any potential customers finding your app, out of the million+ already in the App store, is quite small. But, in general, developing apps, without creating some effective marketing for the apps as well, usually does not result in selling many apps.

Saying you want to make apps and asking if marketing is important is like asking if you should study when you go to school...

What's your budget? Where are your strengths? Do you have more time and skills than money to invest in your own brand? What category will your apps be in? What are your short and long term goals?

If you have mad skills and things just come to you, you may not need to study. If you can make an app that is so compelling that it sells itself there will be no need for you to bother with nascent marketing.

You need to do your own marketing which of course is quite difficult. Hopefully your website will promote your product but then you need potential customers to find your website in the first place. I think there are a few 'review' sites who will review your app and publish their review for you in things such as Mac Surfer and some monthly magazines and perhaps other computer sites. But I'm sure you have to pay them for this.

If your App is OSX then sell it yourself not via the App Store (only if your website is capable of providing downloads and receiving payments etc - which is not that difficult) but if it's iOS then you have no choice but to sell it via the App Store.

Of course Apple will promote your App - ROFL.

If you're looking for an alternative approach to the classic marketing, I've created a way to do Affiliate Marketing in your app with the affiliates just taking a percentage of each sale, https://insertaffiliate.com/

This way you don't have to spend huge amounts on marketing upfront before generating revenue, and can lean into friends, family and your early users to be your marketing approach
