To authorize a macOS computer to access an iTunes or Apple Music library (or any other protected content), follow these steps:
Authorize the Computer for iTunes/Apple Music:
• If you’re using a recent macOS version, open the Music app. • If you’re using an older version, open iTunes. 2. Log in with your Apple ID: • Click Account in the menu bar. • Select Sign In. • Enter your Apple ID and password. 3. Authorize the Computer: • Click Account again > Authorizations > Authorize This Computer. • Enter your Apple ID and password if prompted. • The computer is now authorized to access the library.
Authorize for Home Sharing:
If you want to share your iTunes/Music library over a local network: 1. Enable Home Sharing: • Open the Music or iTunes app. • Click File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing. • Enter your Apple ID credentials to activate this feature. 2. Connect Another Device: • On the other device (Mac or Apple TV, for example), log in with the same Apple ID under Home Sharing. • You’ll then be able to access the shared library.
Manage Authorizations: • Apple limits authorizations to 5 computers per Apple ID. • To check or remove authorizations: • Click Account > View My Account. • Scroll down to the Apple ID Summary to see how many authorizations are in use. • If needed, you can Deauthorize All Computers (this can be done once per year) and reauthorize the necessary devices.
Troubleshooting:
If you encounter issues: • Ensure your Internet connection is active. • Make sure macOS is up to date (Apple Menu > System Settings > Software Update). • If authorization fails, try signing out and signing back in with your Apple ID.
These steps should allow you to properly set up authorization to access your media library on macOS.
