Single app free on iOS and paid on macOS

Is there any way to have different prices on different platforms.

I have released 'game A' on iOS that's free with ads, I would like to release the same game for macOS on the Mac App Store for $3.99 - but it seems impossible to have different prices for different platforms.

I think only solution is to release 'game A' with a different name ('game A : Mac') as a separate app for macOS. This is a very inelegant solution and reduces cohesion between the 2 app stores.

Anyone have any better solutions?

Thanks.

I’m not sure, but im quite certain that you can’t do that cause they both uses AppStore. In that case maybe you can launch it and then like you said, rename it to the AppStore but im not certain it will be accepted through testing since you’ve already launched a free version of the product and then want to launch a pay-to-play product.

Are they really the same app ? Is it a unique build or a build for each platform ?

Did you look at demo app (even though it seems a bit tricky to set up, but that may give ideas).

What I would do:

  • develop 2 versions
  • A plain and a Pro or Plus on Mac, as you described
  • The Mac version would have some extra feature that justify the difference with plain version (but that may be rather differences, like more flexible editing of documents, capability to import documents you can't import on iOS…)
