Allowing workaround for FamilyActivityPicker crash
As discussed and acknowledged here, there is a known bug with the FamilyActivityPicker. When a user expands a category that contains enough tokens to exceed the 50mb memory limit, the FamilyActivityPicker crashes. This happens quite frequently for heavy Safari users. An apple engineer mentioned on this thread that WebDomains shown in the picker are present based on the last 30 days of usage data as surfaced by WebKit. Is there any way a user can clear these WebDomains? Either programatically through our app or any other process we can guide them to as a workaround while this issue is getting fixed?

Issue with RCS Message Filtering on iOS 18.2.1 and 18.3
Hi Apple Developers, I am currently working on a message filtering application and facing issues specifically with filtering RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages. To debug this, I created a sample app that consistently categorizes all incoming messages as "junk." However, the filtering behaviour is inconsistent and not functioning as expected. Here are the key issues observed during testing on iOS versions 18.2.1 and 18.3: Inconsistent Filtering Behavior: When a message is received from an unknown number, it sometimes gets moved to the Junk folder momentarily but is then immediately moved back to the main Messages inbox. In some cases, the message does not get moved to the Junk folder at all, despite the app returning the verdict as "junk." Duplicate Contact Tiles: The Messages app displays two separate conversation tiles for the same mobile number, which is unexpected behavior. I have attached both a sample app and a screen recording that clearly demonstrates the issue. The recording shows that the app categorizes messages as junk, yet they still end up in the main Messages inbox. For reference, my carrier partner is T-Mobile. Please let me know if you need any additional information to investigate this issue further. Looking forward to your insights and guidance. Best regards, Rijul Singhal

Refresh Widget doesn't work from background push notification.
As stated in other posts like: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/734488 https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/652946?answerId=823555022#823555022 Even though the recommended way from Apple documentation is to use push notifications to reload widgets timelines calling WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines(), it is unreliable and I couldn't find a pattern of why it works 10% of times and not the other 90%. While the debugger is connected to the App it always works though. My widget needs to reflect updated information otherwise it becomes useless since it display smart home devices states such as the Apple Home widget does as well.

About the problem that DeviceActivityMonitorExtension does not work
I am developing an app that can help users disable selected apps at a specified time, so that users can get away from their phones and enjoy real life. Here is my data structure: extension ActivityModel { @NSManaged public var id: UUID @NSManaged public var name: String @NSManaged public var weeks: Data @NSManaged public var weekDates: Data @NSManaged public var appTokens: Data } Among them, weeks is of [Bool] type, indicating which weeks from Sunday to Saturday are effective; weekDates is of [[Date,Date]] type, indicating the effective time period; appTokens is of Set type, indicating the selected apps。 At the beginning, I will open a main monitor: let deviceActivityCenter = DeviceActivityCenter() do{ try deviceActivityCenter.startMonitoring( DeviceActivityName(activityModel.id), during: DeviceActivitySchedule( intervalStart: DateComponents(hour: 0,minute: 0,second: 0), intervalEnd: DateComponents(hour: 23,minute: 59,second: 59), repeats: true ) ) }catch { return false } Since the time range may be different every day, I will start the sub-monitoring of the day every time the main monitoring starts: override func intervalDidStart(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { super.intervalDidStart(for: activity) if activity.rawValue.hasPrefix("Sub-") { ActivityModelManager.disableApps( Tools.getUUIDFromString(activity.rawValue) ) return } let weekIndex = Calendar.current.component(.weekday, from: .now) let weeks = ActivityModelManager.getWeeks(activity.rawValue) if weeks[weekIndex] { let weekDates = ActivityModelManager.getWeekDates(activity.rawValue) let deviceActivityCenter = DeviceActivityCenter() do{ try deviceActivityCenter.startMonitoring( DeviceActivityName("Sub-" + activityModel.id), during: DeviceActivitySchedule( intervalStart: getHourAndMinute(weekDates[weekIndex][0]), intervalEnd: getHourAndMinute(weekDates[weekIndex][1]), repeats: false ) ) }catch { return } }esle { return } } I will judge whether it is main monitoring or sub monitoring based on the different activity names. When the sub-monitor starts, I will get the bound application and then disable it: static func disableApps(_ id : UUID){ let appTokens = ActivityModelManager.getLimitAppById(id) let name = ManagedSettingsStore.Name(id.uuidString) let store = ManagedSettingsStore(named: name) store.shield.applications = appTokens return } When the child monitoring is finished, I resume the application: static func enableApps(_ id : UUID){ let name = ManagedSettingsStore.Name(id.uuidString) let store = ManagedSettingsStore(named: name) store.shield.applications = [] } The above is my code logic. When using DeviceActivityMonitorExtension, I found the following problems: intervalDidStart may be called multiple times, resulting in several sub-monitors being started. After a period of time, the monitoring is turned off. The static methods enableApps and disableApps are sometimes not called

Custom `DiscreteFormatStyle` in live activities
Hello, I'm trying to display some Duration in a live activity using a custom format, with the goal of displaying a match time (only minutes) as, e.g. 33', 45' (+2), etc. For that purpose, I'm using a TimeDataSource<Duration>, so that it also updates automatically given a starting point. I've implemented my custom FormatStyle, trying to somehow mimic the existing UnitsFormatStyle (which perfectly works with live activities) but just changing the format. I've added conformance to DiscreteFormatStyle, and code-wise everything seems to be ok (if I've understood things correctly). It compiles and it even works as expected in a playground. However, when trying to use it within the live activity, I'm getting these cryptic errors in the Console.app, and the live activity just turns into a view with placeholders Failed to fetch view from archive at index 12: SwiftUI.AnyCodable<SwiftUI.(unknown context at $1d47f6af0).SafelyCodableRequirement>.(unknown context at $1d47fe410).Errors.noType(mangledName: "7SwiftUI18TimeDataFormattingO10ResolvableVy_AA0cD6SourceVAAE15DurationStorageOys0H0V_GAK28BlickLiveActivitiesExtensionE16MatchFormatStyleVG") [624AEC37-13D9-4927-9F41-C3092B61E214] Failed to return view entry from archive for view model with tag listItem with error: SwiftUI.AnyCodable<SwiftUI.(unknown context at $1d47f6af0).SafelyCodableRequirement>.(unknown context at $1d47fe410).Errors.noType(mangledName: "7SwiftUI18TimeDataFormattingO10ResolvableVy_AA0cD6SourceVAAE15DurationStorageOys0H0V_GAK28BlickLiveActivitiesExtensionE16MatchFormatStyleVG") Are there any limitations when it comes to live activities and these custom formatters? This whole error doesn't make sense, since I'm only aiming to update every minute, which should just be fine, the same thing I get with the UnitsFormatStyle. For reference, this is my playground, which just works as expected: import Foundation import SwiftUI import PlaygroundSupport extension Duration { struct MatchFormatStyle: DiscreteFormatStyle, Sendable { let periodLength: Int let overtime: Int func format(_ value: Duration) -> String { let (seconds, _): (Int64, Int64) = value.components let minutes: Int = Int(seconds) / 60 let current: Int = periodLength + minutes + overtime if current > periodLength { return "\(periodLength)' (+\(current - periodLength))" } else { return "\(current)'" } } func discreteInput(before input: Duration) -> Duration? { let (seconds, _): (Int64, Int64) = input.components let minutes: Int64 = seconds / 60 - 1 return Duration(secondsComponent: minutes * 60, attosecondsComponent: .zero) } func discreteInput(after input: Duration) -> Duration? { let (seconds, _): (Int64, Int64) = input.components let minutes: Int64 = seconds / 60 + 1 return Duration(secondsComponent: minutes * 60, attosecondsComponent: .zero) } } } extension FormatStyle where Self == Duration.MatchFormatStyle { static func matchTime(currentTime: Int, periodLength: Int) -> Duration.MatchFormatStyle { return Duration.MatchFormatStyle(periodLength: periodLength, overtime: max(currentTime - periodLength, .zero)) } } extension TimeDataSource<Date> { static func matchDuration(for currentTime: Int, periodLength: Int) -> TimeDataSource<Duration> { let minutesAhead: Double = Double(max(periodLength - currentTime + 1, .zero)) return TimeDataSource<Date>.durationOffset(to: Date.now.addingTimeInterval(minutesAhead * 60)) } } struct FooView: View { let currentTime: Int = 36 let periodLength: Int = 45 var body: some View { Text( TimeDataSource<Date>.matchDuration(for: currentTime, periodLength: periodLength), format: .matchTime(currentTime: currentTime, periodLength: periodLength) ) .frame(width: 400, height: 200) .font(.system(size: 50)) } } // Present the view controller in the Live View window PlaygroundPage.current.setLiveView(FooView()) Any hints or suggestions are welcome, many thanks in advance.

Contacts Framework Question
Hey, I would love to access the users Contact (ie. the Me Card) Apple recently released the Invites app and within this app you can find the users Contacts Photo. I tried to replicate this behaviour but I currently need to match based on a name or email or something else. I have no idea how to receive this data because when using the Invites app I only remember the app asking for Contacts permission and nothing else so far. let store = CNContactStore() let keysToFetch = [CNContactImageDataAvailableKey, CNContactImageDataKey, CNContactThumbnailImageDataKey] as [CNKeyDescriptor] let email = "test@test.de" let predicate = CNContact.predicateForContacts(matchingEmailAddress: email) do { let contacts = try store.unifiedContacts(matching: predicate, keysToFetch: keysToFetch) let imageDatas: [Data] = contacts.compactMap { $0.imageData } self.images = imageDatas.map { UIImage(data: $0) ?? UIImage() } } catch { print("Error fetching contacts: \(error)") } This is how I am retrieving the Image. MAYBE someone can help me out. Thank you so far ~ Flo

Using Flutter with CallKit
When using CallKit in my flutter app audio(both mic and speaker) stop working. When not using call kit to answer calls the app work fine. I am using the flutter flutter_callkit_incoming to use callkit and flutter_webrtc for the telephony. Flutter_callkit_incoming has some boilerplate code code include sections to uncomment when using webrtc and I have seen multiple fixes to suggest to make sure the to configure sharedAudioSession before the callkit is sent. Neither of this approaches seemed to have worked.

Intermittent White Screen Issue on iOS 18.1.1 for a Hybrid Shopping App
Hello everyone, I’m running an Objective-C–based hybrid (native + web) shopping application and encountering a recurring issue on devices running iOS 18.1.1: When the app launches, it only shows a white screen with the native frame visible—no web content loads. Restarting or reinstalling the app doesn’t help. In one instance, toggling Airplane Mode on and off brought the app back to normal, but this workaround isn’t consistent. There are no crash logs, so we can’t determine if it’s caused by a network error, cache conflict, or an OS-level bug. So far, we have only seen this issue on iOS 18.1.1 devices. Because our app is a shopping platform, this significantly impacts users. Questions: Could this be related to a known bug or limitation in iOS 18.1.1? Are there recommended diagnostic steps or workarounds for a hybrid app that shows a white screen without generating crash logs? Which additional details (e.g., system logs, network traces, device configurations) might help isolate the cause? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

DeviceActivityMonitor.intervalDidEnd never getting called
I'm trying to build an app with a DeviceActivityMonitor extension that executes some code after 15 minutes. I can confirm that the extension is set up correctly and that intervalDidStart is executed, but for some reason the intervalDidEnd method never gets called. What I'm doing in both is just registering a local notification. class DeviceActivityMonitorExtension: DeviceActivityMonitor { let store = ManagedSettingsStore() override func intervalDidStart(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { createPushNotification( title: "Session activated!", body: "" ) super.intervalDidStart(for: activity) } override func intervalDidEnd(for activity: DeviceActivityName) { createPushNotification( title: "Session ended", body: "" ) super.intervalDidEnd(for: activity) } private func createPushNotification(title: String, body: String) { let content = UNMutableNotificationContent() content.title = title content.body = body // Configure the recurring date. var dateComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year, .month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second], from: Date().addingTimeInterval(1.0)) dateComponents.calendar = Calendar.current dateComponents.timeZone = TimeZone.current // Create the trigger as a repeating event. let trigger = UNCalendarNotificationTrigger(dateMatching: dateComponents, repeats: false) let uuidString = UUID().uuidString let request = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: uuidString, content: content, trigger: trigger) // Schedule the request with the system. let notificationCenter = UNUserNotificationCenter.current() notificationCenter.add(request) } } And this is the method that is starting the monitoring session: @objc public static func startSession() -> String? { // Calculate start and end times let center = DeviceActivityCenter() let minutes = 15 let startDate = Date().addingTimeInterval(1) guard let endDate = Calendar.current.date(byAdding: .minute, value: minutes, to: startDate) else { return "Failed to create end date?" } // Create date components and explicitly set the calendar and timeZone let startComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year, .month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second], from: startDate) let endComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year, .month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second], from: endDate) // Create schedule let schedule = DeviceActivitySchedule( intervalStart: startComponents, intervalEnd: endComponents, repeats: false ) print("Now", Date()) print("Start", startDate, startComponents) print("End", endDate, endComponents) print(schedule.nextInterval) do { // Use a consistent activity name for our simple implementation let activity = DeviceActivityName("SimpleSession") try center.startMonitoring(activity, during: schedule) return nil } catch { return "Failed to start monitoring: \(error)" } } I can confirm my dates & date components make sense with the 4 print statements. Here is the output: Now 2025-02-12 04:21:32 +0000 Start 2025-02-12 04:21:33 +0000 era: 1 year: 2025 month: 2 day: 11 hour: 20 minute: 21 second: 33 isLeapMonth: false End 2025-02-12 04:36:33 +0000 era: 1 year: 2025 month: 2 day: 11 hour: 20 minute: 36 second: 33 isLeapMonth: false Optional(2025-02-12 04:21:33 +0000 to 2025-02-12 04:36:33 +0000) I get the Session activated! notification but never get the Session ended notification. Half an hour later, I've tried debugging the DeviceActivityCenter by printing out the activities property and can see that it is still there. When I try to print out the nextInterval property on the schedule object i get from calling center.schedule(for:), it returns nil. I'm running this on an iPhone 8 testing device with developer mode enabled. It has iOS 16.7.10. I'm totally lost as to how to get this to work.

Live caller id lookup - Which secret key is used for PIR database HE encryption on test env
Hi, I'm trying to setup PIR service for live caller id lookup (in python but based on swift example: https://github.com/apple/live-caller-id-lookup-example). The swift example provides utilities for database setup and encryption, but I can't find any specification about which key is used for database encryption and how the ios system knows about this key in order to be able to construct the PIR requests. So my question is how does the PIR service communicate the secret key to ios system or vice versa? (specific to the test environment, before onboarding)

Filtering MMS Messages with Multimedia Content (Images, Videos, etc.)
Hi Apple Developer, I’m working on a message-filtering application and reviewing Apple's documentation on message filtering. The documentation clearly states that MMS messages can be filtered. (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/identitylookup/sms-and-mms-message-filtering) When we refer to MMS, it includes images, short videos, and other supported multimedia formats. However, the ILMessageFilterQueryRequest only provides the message body as a String, meaning we can access text and links but not images or other media files. Could you please confirm whether Apple allows third-party applications to access multimedia content sent from unknown numbers? Looking forward to your quick response. Thanks, Rijul Singhal

iOS app not getting killed after removing from app stack manually.
I am having an app in which we are using NEHotspotHelper to detect wifi changes. when I try to kill the app and network change detected, we are seeing logs in NEHotspotHelper* module and after that we are able see the logs indicating app launched in background. [Application] application(_:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:), UIApplicationState: 2 But when I checked in the app stack, I couldn't find the app. Then I clicked icon to launch the app, it launched without splash screen as if it came from background. Need your support to understand this is expected behaviour.

Universal Links are not working
I have an iOS app where the universal links are not working. Basically, I have double-checked the AASA file, and it's formatted correctly. It's in the right location .well-known subdirectory. I have checked other things as well. For my app, if the user has forgotten their password, they click on the Forgot Password option, which sends them an email, after which they click on a link; the link should open the iOS app, but is instead opening up the web browser. The format of the link matches the formatting in the AASA file. As well, I've checked associated domains as well. Using Postman, I can see that the AASA file is accessible. I have a feeling that the iOS app cannot fetch the AASA file, as I don't see any relevant swcd logs. My AASA file is located at: https://www.COMPANY_NAME.ca/.well-known/apple-app-site-association Please advise.
