We’re encountering an issue when trying to add non-standard headers to outgoing requests using Declarative Net Request (DNR) rules in our Safari Web Extension. Tested on macOS 15.4 with Safari 18.4. Specifically, when attempting to add a custom header such as "X-Custom-Header" using a DNR rule, the header does not appear in the request. We are able to add standard headers like "Authorization" and "Cookie" to the request successfully using the same method. This behavior suggests that Safari may be filtering or blocking non-standard headers when set via DNR rules, unlike other browsers. In Chrome and Firefox, the same rule adds the "X-Custom-Header" header without any issue. We are looking for assistance in fixing these issues and having our Safari Extension function the same as it does in Firefox and Chrome.

Hello, I am experiencing an issue when trying to open the browser on my Apple Watch SE 2 running the latest version, watchOS 11.6. When I attempt to visit any website, the browser opens and displays the URL at the top as if it is loading, but the screen remains black and no content is displayed. The internet connection is available, and all other apps on the watch work normally. This issue occurs only with the browser. I would appreciate any guidance or solution to resolve this problem. When the “Use Strong Password?” dialog appears and I select “Not Now” to manually enter my own password, the password I type is displayed in plain text instead of being masked. Since the input field is of type="password", the entered characters should be hidden as is standard for password inputs. Is there a way to prevent this behavior and ensure that the password is properly hidden even after dismissing the strong password suggestion dialog?

I'm building a macOS Google Chrome extension. I need to be able to send messages from the Chrome extension to the macOS app What's the set up flow? I've heard about native messaging, but I struggle to implement it. I've heard about XPC, but not sure JS can send messages to a macOS XPC service.

I have a Safari Extension which replaces default new tab and puts a link on a generated new tab. This link can be either usual URL link, or a URL Scheme, something like plecoapi://x-callback-url/df?hw=${char}&sec=dict In iOS 17 and previosly, this link worked flawlessly. In iOS 18, including 18.2, this X-Callback-URL link works only once, if I kill Safari process, reopen Safari and tap the link. Each subsequent tap will just reload the page, link won't work anymore until the next Safari reload. Usual URL links works every time without a problem.

I don't think the issue is specific iOS 18. We have a web application that runs with IIS Authentication of Windows and Anonymous. Initially the app opens and the user clicks a button and triggers the "401 Challenge" via ASP.NET. The browser presents the Active Directory login, user enters credentials, clicks Sign In, and the browser hangs (may actually be negotiating something). After a few minutes the user is logged into the application. We have done a number of google searches/AI to try to determine what to change and there is no clear solution. Is there anything else to try? This problem is not seen in Chrome on iOS or on a Windows machine. Strangely it is also not seen using BrowserStack with one of their "real" devices. We have other apps that run with just Windows Authorization and this problem is not observed.

A DNR rule with lower priority is being applied before a DNR rule of higher priority on Safari. Specifically, a low-priority DNR block rule that matches a request is being applied before a high-priority DNR redirect rule that matches the same request, preventing the redirect from occurring. The only way to get the high-priority redirect rule to occur is to remove the DNR block rule. This does not occur on other browsers. I have confirmed that the incorrect application of DNR rule priority happens on other top level domains, with other urlFilters, and with other redirect URLs. I confirmed that this is happening while I’ve granted my extension permissions on all websites.

Whenever I make a safari view controller on XCode26 Beta 5, there appears to be a blurry white overlay overtop the controller. This worked fine in XCode26 Beta 2, with no code differences. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, we have PWA for which we´ve built a wrapper using PWA Builder tool and we are experiencing an issue with apple sign in. When we try to redirect the user to "https://appleid.apple.com/auth/authorize?...params...", a bottom sheet login prompt appears and only once the user signs in using the prompt he is then redirected to the url where he needs to sign in again and then we get the callback. We want to get rid of that bottom sheet prompt. We have written a PAC script that blocklists certain domains and whitelists others. We went to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi (the network we are using), then clicked on Details, and under Proxies, we added the PAC file URL in the Automatic Proxy Configuration section. We tried hosting the PAC file both on localhost and on a separate HTTP server. After saving the settings, we tested several URLs. The blocking and allowing behavior works correctly in all browsers except Safari. Below is the PAC script we are using for your reference. The script works as expected in browsers other than Safari. The new WebView implementation in *OS 26 versions is a very valuable addition to the SwiftUI toolset. I was experimenting with it and was wondering how to implement a Pull To Refresh. While this was easily achievable with the "old" WKWebView I was not able to find an API to implement, for example, a page reload when the user uses a pull to refresh gesture. I tried to attach to a .refreshable(_:) modifier to the WebView but without success. Is there an official API for that or should maybe .refreshable(_:) already work and it's just a bug or is it simply not yet supported? I recently updated my iPhone 12 to iOS 26. It seems there is a bug rendering Safari unable to "add to home screen" any website. Clicking the button displays a blank modal with Add button greyed out.

I reported this bug one year ago in https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/746406, but as it is not been fixed yet, I'm going to try by opening this new incident report. iOS is not working for the Unicode Variation Selector-15 (U+FE0E) for all the characters. Can you please apply that variation selector to all your Unicode characters? I) Steps to reproduce the issue: navigate in safari to the page https://eurovot.com/vs.htm II) Expected result: as the 1st column of characters have the Variation Selector-15 (U+FE0E) applied, and the 2nd column have the Variation Selector-16 (U+FE0F) applied, the first column should always display text characters (in orange) and the second column emoji characters. III) Error result: some characters are working fine in the 1st column and displayed as text (in orange colour), but some other aren't displayed as text, they wrongly displayed as emojis instead.

For many years, I've noticed that although in native code I can handle continuous and simultaneous Apple pencil and touch inputs using UIKit, Safari and WKWebView's PointerEvents only seem to allow you to use one input type at a time. i.e. Apple Pencil down blocks touch input until lifted and touch input blocks Apple Pencil input. It's as though requiresexclusivetouchtype has been set in the underlying webkit implementation. There's decades of research (e.g. https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/1866029.1866036 ) and several existing native applications in production showing that multimodal inputs open-up many unique and useful applications and interactions. Even a simple "hold object with finger" + "draw with stylus" controls are the norm. I recently built a native application using multimodal simultaneous inputs, but this is impossible to port to web due to the unexpected behavior of PointerEvents (and touch events, and mouse events; any variant exhibits the same behavior). I've researched and attempted to apply every possible flag, change, and css code to get this working, but I think the behind-the-scenes implementation is what's blocking the simultaneous touch types. This is unexpected and undesired behavior because it's inconsistent with the native behavior. If it's unintended, it's a big priority to fix for creating better user experiences on the iPad. If it's intended, I do not believe that's reasonable (even if it might be more complex and used for more advanced applications). Please expose a way to support simultaneous touch types in iPadOS/iOS in both Safari and WKWebView. At minimum, may we have a discussion on how to support the desired behavior? The simplest solution I can think of is to provide a webkit-platform-specific boolean in Safari and WKWebView called requiresExclusiveTouchType, which is set to False by default to keep the current behavior, and settable to True to get the more flexible behavior I'm expecting.

Problem As the title says, Safari lost all my tabs once I updated to macOS 15.4. I do of course have "Safari opens with: All windows from last session" set. This has been my default for many years. Past Mitigation In the past I had a script that I could use to backup ~/Library/Safari that would save all my bookmarks and tabs. Unfortunately they made this method of backup non-function sometime around when tab groups were introduced. Suggestion Fortunately my tab groups are still intact. But this sort of problem doesn't give me a lot of confidence. I haven't had something like this happen in a while, but when it does happen, it's quite frustrating. Apple really needs to recognize that this sort of thing can and will happen and they should make it easier for users to manually save/restore their tabs. Problem with forums To add insult to injury, as I was typing this message in the forum, I decided to select "Edit Bookmarks"... which proceeded to replace the current window with my bookmarks, thereby losing my post! It did this without warning of page content changes (which I get from most other websites). I felt somewhat relieved that the forum had recognized a previous draft and offered for me to continue. However, when I selected it, it brought me back to an old post... that was actually posted! smh

I'm developing an application that needs smooth framerates within a wkwebview that interacts with native code. However, requestAnimationFrame by default is still throttled to 60hz even if all my target devices (the iPad Pro for example) have supported 120hz for a long time already. I noticed that the latest Safari in 18.3 beta supports unlocked framerates, but that's only under Safari feature flags. To my knowledge, these flags do not apply to WKWebView. Is there a way to enable unlocked framerate in WKWebView via requestAnimationFrame? (Calling JS at a faster rate from the native code side will not work, almost definitely, since WKWebView will still render at its own rate.) This is an experimental application for internal use and I'm okay if there are temporary beta solutions available.

When trying to create an anchor with the download attribute it does not work for PDF files, it displays the files inline. Also when the download attribute is set the target attribute is ignored too. The tag: ... The behavior: It displaies the file in line. The correct behavior: The file should be downloaded and not displayed or at least displayed but with the "_blank" target (new tab). This is an issue when working with WebSockets which is closed when the file is opened inline.

When you open the Directorate General of civil Aviation, India website then in the top bar bring the cursor to “Regulations and Guidance” under that there will be a drop down which will give numerous options. In that go to Centre Column “Civil Aviation Requirements”. Then click on ”Section 7” then click on “Part II”. Actually on a laptop it’s a 4 page document but on my iPad it’s just an image of the first page. I can’t read any of the PDF’s.

Recently we started noticing in Safari v18.2 browser an unexpected useragent set for https://www.espn.com pages like - "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/110.0.0.0 Safari/537.36" (recognized as Chrome by most UA detection logic) and breaks our video playback in some scenarios. When digging into this we came across site specific quirks and the "Disable site-specific hacks" setting which fixed the playback functionality and set a more expected UA - "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/18.2 Safari/605.1.15". Is the unexpected UA being set somewhere in Safari/Webkit? Can this be removed so site functionality works without needing to find the "Disable site-specific hacks" setting?
