Reply to App rejection for use of alternate icons
Well... call me a pessimistic old cynic, but I think that the advice you get over the phone from App Review is also "speculative at best". I've only tried that phone consultation thing once, and the guy was friendly and sounded like he knew what he was talking about - so I did what he said, and I still get rejected. It was almost like an "AI" conversation - convincing and grammatically correct, but fundamentally nonsense. As I said, good luck!

Reply to Fraud: trial period without the possibility of canceling a subsequent paid subscription
I believe the minimum free trial period is 3 days. If you're really seeing a 1 day free trial offered, then that's hard to explain. Did this happen to you personally, or is this something that you've read about elsewhere? "How to get compensation" - google "app store refunds". There is a web page with a "report a problem" button. Exactly what happens next may depend on where you live.

Does choosing the alternate app icon in app settings not count as "within the app" ? What do you mean by "app settings"? Do you mean that you've usd a Settings.bundle to add settings for your app to the main Settings app? If that is what you mean, then that clearly isn't "within the app". Having said that, it seems very pedantic that they would reject you for doing that. So... yeah, actually, that's exactly what they would do! I suggest that you move the settings inside the app and see what happens. If you're unsure if they have correctly understood how to change the icon - which is possible, though I think unlikely - then send them a screen capture video showing how to do it.

Reply to Where can I read the help for all Do Shell Script commands?
Is it possible to see all possible commands using "man"? No. There is man -k for a keyword search. You can find linux man pages online with complete lists of commands, e.g. at https://linux.die.net/man/1/ ; that is of limited use because (a) the available macOS commands differ, and (b) the list is too long to find anything in practice. I’m unsure what to recommend for learning shell programming. I still have a copy of Kernighan & Pike on my bookshelf - it is 30 years old, and while it is still mostly accurate I doubt that it will teach you what you want to know.

Thanks for posting the link. It seems that something called “xprotect” decided it was malware and deleted it. FFS Apple. The linked instructions suggest that it really is necessary to re-download it, i.e. it hasn’t just been quarantined or something. Is that right? How do I turn off this “xprotect” feature?

if you're confused about the rejection / review of your app, you can simply request for a call and someone will reach out via phone call to explain what is wrong and what you need to do. Or alternatively, you can post on this forum and "someone" (two of us actually!) will tell you the very same thing! Do let us know if they eventually approve it - good luck!

Reply to Insufficient Metrics Data
I think these numbers are only useful for high-volume (i.e. free) apps. I have paid apps that together make enough income for me to live on, but these stats always show "insufficient data".

My experience has always been that it is always best to just do what they say immediately, i.e. move the settings into the app now, rather than trying to argue or appeal or whatever. But who knows, you might be lucky!

Do you know about “man pages” ? Note that test is not typical because it is normally a shell builtin.

Me too. It's currently re-downloading, which will take a couple more hours. So that's half a day wasted. Has anyone filed a bug?

You need the "App Store Connect API". (Search for it.) Beware, it's not easy to use.
