UISheetPresentationController issues on iPhone Duo
I have an App where I use the UISheetPresentationController to present a menu as a "drawer" (like the "FindMy" or "Maps") App. Because the sheet is presented over a map, I made the sheet semi-transparent/blurry, so the Map shines through, which looks nice. The sheet is using a UITableView with the "insetGroup" style, so the table cells have the nice rounded borders and there are margins to the sheet borders. When running the App on the iPhone Duo (Simulator) on the outer display, the tableView does no longer respect the "insetGroup" style, it is rendered like it would have the "plain" style, which destroys everything that look good. No rounded borders, no margins. However if I opt-out of the automatic "vertical toolbar behavior" (overriding preferredVerticalBarBehavior so it returns "disabled"), then everything looks great again, however then the sheet content might overlap with the sidebar icons and camera because it now covers the whole area up to the right screen border. Is this supposed to be this way (if yes, why?), is there a way to fix this, or do we have to wait for a bugfix within iOS 27.1? The tableview still claims to have the "insetGrouped" style, just it does not render this way. I did not see any similar issues under other circumstances. Only UISheetPresentationController seems to be affected by this. Is there a way to correctly detect if the App is running on an iPhone Duo, so we could use this detection to add workarounds for such issues?

Is it no longer possible in Xcode 27.1 to run/debug Apps on an iPhone X?
I've still an old iPhone X (running iOS 16.7.16) and like to also use this to test/debug my Apps, but it seems that XCode 27.1 does no longer support it. The device simply does not show up in the new Device Hub. I still have some App-specific data on this device, which I would like to use for the tests, but as XCode now ignores this device, I can't even copy the data over to the newer devices. Is it somhoe possible to add the device to the device Hub, or make it available to XCode so I can actually test on this device as well?

Best practice Replacement for Edit Button on iPhone Duo
On the iPhone Duo the standard "Edit" button for navigation bars is a text-based button, and text-based buttons are not pushed to the vertical toolbars on the Duo. This looks sometimes silly, if it is the only remaining button that can not be placed in the vertical toolbar and which has the result that an almost empty horizontal navigation bar must be kept visible as well. So I guess it would be good idea to have an icon-based replacement for the Editor button to avoid having two toolbars on the Duo. Is there a best practice for the icon to pick for such an edit button? Would be "square.and.pencil" (SF Symbols) a good choice? Or better the "pencil .circle", because the "square" one is often used for text-based input? Anything better?

Quick Look Plugin for Mac and Internet Access
I'd like to create a Quick Look extension for a file type for which a location or region on a Map should be shown as preview. However the MapView would only show a grid without any map. From within the MapKit delegate I can see from the "Error" parameter (a server with this domain can not be found) that this seems to be a network issue. The Quick Look extension seems to have no access to the internet and therefore the MapView can not load any map data. I've then also done some other tests via URLSession, which also only fails with connection errors. I haven't seen any limitations or restrictions mentioned in the API documentation. Is this the expected behavior? Is this a bug? Or am I missing something?

iPadOS 26.1: new issue with traitCollection when changing dark mode
Since iPadOS 26.1 I notice a new annoying bug when changing the dark mode option of the system. The appearance of the UI changes, but no longer for view controllers which are presented as Popover. For these view controllers the method "traitCollectionDidChange()" is still called (though sometimes with a very large delay), but checking the traitCollection property of the view controller in there does no longer return the correct appearance (which is probably why the visual appearance of the popover doesn't change anymore). So if the dark mode was just switched on, traitCollectionDidChange() is called, but the "traitCollection.userInterfaceStyle" property still tells me that the system is in normal mode. More concrete, traitCollection.userInterfaceStyle seems to be set correctly only(!) when opening the popover, and while the popover is open, it is never updated anymore when the dark mode changes. This is also visible in the standard Apps of the iPad, like the Apple Maps App: just tap on the "map" icon at the top right to open the "Map mode" view. While the view is open, change the dark mode. All of the Maps App will change its appearance, with the exception of this "Map mode" view. Does anyone know an easy workaround? Or do I really need to manually change the colors for all popup view controllers whenever the dark mode changes? Using dynamic UIColors won't help, because these rely on the "userInterfaceStyle" property, and this is no longer correct. Bugreport: FB20928471

Sharing file creates new UIScene each time, how to prevent this
I have an App which supports multiple windows on the iPad. The App can receive URLs from other Apps (via application.openURL()) and also files via "share sheet" (via UIActivityViewController). When receiving a URL from another App the delegate method scene(_ scene: UIScene, openURLContexts URLContexts: Set) will be called on an existing UIScene, however when a file is received through the share sheet from another App, a new UIScene is created and therefore also a new window (eg the delegates application(_ application: UIApplication, configurationForConnecting connectingSceneSession: UISceneSession, options: UIScene.ConnectionOptions) and scene(_ scene: UIScene, willConnectTo session: UISceneSession, options connectionOptions: UIScene.ConnectionOptions) are called). In both cases I do get the URL and file just fine, however I do not want to get new UIScenes and windows created when receiving a file via share sheet. How can I prevent to get a new UIScene or window? The received files should be used in the existing windows and should not create new ones.

WKWebsiteDataStore.httpCookieStore.deleteCookie() does no longer delete all cookies
Under iOS 26 or macOS 26 I experience some issues when trying to delete certain cookies via WKWebsiteDataStore.httpCookieStore.deleteCookie(). Most cookies can be deleted just fine, but a few simply can not be deleted anymore. Calling the deleteCookie() function with a valid cookie (retrieved via getAllCookies()) does nothing. This is not an issue under iOS 18.x or macOS 15.x or older. Looking at the exact cookie data does not show anything special which would explain why certain cookies can't be deleted anymore. It is still possible to delete cookies via WKWebsiteDataStore.removeData(ofTypes:, for:), but of course then much more data is deleted, not just individual cookies. So this is not a solution, because it is important to be able to delete individual cookies. Does anyone has a workaround or solution for this macOS/iOS bug?

Active Quicklook extension is ignored
When you have multiple Apps on the Mac which all provide Quicklook extensions for the same file type, then I would assume that if I activate one of these Quicklook extensions in the system settings, this one would be used. But this doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like the macOS just looks the very first extension it can find for a certain file type, and if this Quicklook extension is switched off, the file can not be previewed anymore. The macOS just doesn't bother to look for the other existing quicklook extension for this file, even if this other is enabled. The only option right now to get this other extension to be used by the system would be to completely delete the first App, so its extension is deleted as well. Is this really the way how it is supposed to work? How can this be fixed? Can I tell my users something else than "just delete the other App"?

WKWebView isBlockedByScreenTime
WKWebView has a new property "isBlockedByScreenTime" since iOS 26. But I do not yet understand when exactly this property could be used. When I setup content-based restrictions in the ScreenTime settings then WKWebView reports an error 105 via "webView:didFailProvisionalNavigation:" delegate. The isBlockedByScreenTime property still returns false in this case. If ScreenTime has a time-based limit, the App would not run at all. Under which circumstances would the property "isBlockedByScreenTime" return the value true? When exactly and for what can this property be actually used? The "problem" is that I want to find if a web page is blocked and can not be loaded, why this is the case. By simply trial and error I found out that WKWebView returns error codes 104 and 105 for blocked web sites because of content filters and Screen Time restrictions, however these error codes are not documented at all (at least I've not found any documentation or documentation for these error codes and also some other codes like 100, 102, 204 etc), so I'm not really sure if I handle all cases correctly. I hoped that isBlockedByScreenTime would at least tell me one reason for blocked pages. If there are documents which explain these error codes (100 and above), where I can find these?

UISplitView with "sidebar" and Liquid Glass
I have a couple of (older) UIKit-based Apps using UISplitViewController on the iPad to have a two-column layout. I'm trying to edit the App so it will shows the left column as sidebar with liquid glass effect, similar to the one in the "Settings" App of iPadOS 26. But this seems to be almost impossible to do right now. "out of the box" the UISplitViewController already shows the left column somehow like a sidebar, with some margins to the sides, but missing the glass effect and with very little contrast to the background. If the left column contains a UITableViewController, I can try to get the glass effect this way within the UITableViewController: tableView.backgroundColor = .clear tableView.backgroundView = UIVisualEffectView(effect: UIGlassContainerEffect()) It is necessary to set the backgroundColor of the table view to the clear color because otherwise the default background color would completely cover the glass effect and so it's no longer visible. It is also necessary to set the background of all UITableViewCells to clear. If the window is in the foreground, this will now look very similar to the sidebar of the Settings App. However if the window is in the back, the sidebar is now much darker than the one of the Settings App. Not that nice looking, but for now acceptable. However whenever I navigate to another view controller in the side bar, all the clear backgrounds destroy the great look, because the transition to the new child controller overlaps with the old parent controller and you see both at the same time (because of the clear backgrounds). What is the best way to solve these issues and get a sidebar looking like the one of the Settings App under all conditions?

UIMainMenuSystem and MKMapView
I've added some menus to the new (mac-like) menu bar on the iPad App under iPadOS 26, which is working fine. However if the main view controller covers the whole screen and shows a fullscreen Map (MKMapView), the menu bar has a dark gradient as a background, which makes it extremely difficult to see the menu. I guess the iPadOS tries to put a semi-transparent layer between the view controller and the menu bar to make sure that the content of the view controller doesn't interfere with with the menubar and the menu is easy to read. But when the view controller shows a map, the system seems to get the colors for this transparent layer wrong. Is it possible to solve this, or is this still a bug of iPad OS 26? Interestingly, when I create a screenshot of the screen, this dark gradient which makes the menu bar unreadably is not included in the screenshot. So in the screenshot the menu is easy to read. Only on the real device, the menu bar is almost unreadably

sheetPresentationController and iOS 26 Beta
I my App I use the sheetPresentationController to get a sheet that sits on top of the main view (a Map) and that can be slided up and down, similar to the Maps or FindMy Apps. This works great with iOS 18 and older. But under iOS 26 Beta I see issues, especially on the iPad. When the window is small (iPhone or compact size class on iPad), changing the height of the sheet works as expected, the sheet window is attached to the bottom of the screen and I can slide it up and down. But when the App window is wider (regular size class on the iPad), the sheet is shown at the left (as expected), but it is no longer attached to the bottom of the screen, there's a very large (but constant) gap between the bottom of the App window and the bottom of the sheet. I haven't found a way to minimize the gap, the sheet window seems to totally ignore the vertical position and size of the "sourceView" to which the sheet should be attached to (it still evaluates the horizontal position, so I can move the sheet to the right, but the vertical position can't be controlled anymore). The Maps App or FindMy Apps do not show this issue, also iOS 18 and older do not show this issue. Is this normal or can I do something to prevent this? The sheet should always be positioned to the bottom left corner of the App window, Another problem is the window background with a UIGlassContainer effect. In the Apple Maps App the sheet looses its glass effect transparency under iOS 26 when the sheet is fully expanded. The FindMy does not have this issue, here the glass effect/transparency is always present. In my App the background shows the glass effect when the window is not fully expanded when the overall App window is above a certain height (like the Apple Maps App), but when the App window is below a certain height then it is the opposite way: fully expanded it shows the glass effect and at smaller heights it is opaque. Why is this the case? How can I get the behavior of the FindMy App where the sheet window keeps its transparent glass effect in all cases? I do not want to have it changing its appearance depending of the height of the sheet. I can "solve" some of the issues when presenting the "sheet" as popover (via popoverPresentationController) and from within the popoverPresentationController use the adaptiveSheetPresentationController property to get the UISheetPresentationController (instead of directly using the sheetPresentationController property). In small App windows (iPhone or compact size class) it works exactly as when directly using sheetPresentationController. With larger App windows (iPad and regular size class) the sheet will be attached to the bottom of the App window (as expected) and the glass effect is always present. However in this case the detents which define the allowed heights of the sheet window will be always ignored, the window seems to have always the maximum height (minus some safe areas), Even when using the preferredContentSize property to set the size, only the width is respected, but never the height. Is there any way to get this working? Is this supposed to work this way or is this still a beta issue?

WKWebView: Fullscreen API very unreliable on iPadOS 18.x
Since iPadOS 18.x WKWebView seems to have a bug within its Fullscreen API (which can be enabled via WKPreferences.isElementFullscreenEnabled). This bug has the effect that websites trying to make an element (for example a video player) fullscreen fail to do so. This does not always happen, most of the time the fullscreen mode does work fine, but sometimes (far too often to be ignored) it does not. If an instance of WKWebView shows this issue, it can not be "fixed" by reloading the page or loading other pages, this issue exists in this instance forever. My App is a web browser App so I can create and remove WKWebView instance easily (by opening or closing Tabs). And there are times where I never see this bug, and times where ever other tab shows this bug. It's totally unreliable. The App does not show any issues at all when running under iPadOS 17 or older. The issue is only present under iPadOS 18.x. After some testing I've found out that when the bug has affected an instance of WKWebView, the JavaScript call element.requestFullscreen() will work if the element is a video element, but does no longer work if it is another element (like a DIV). If an instance of WKWebView is not affected by this bug, element.requestFullscreen() will work for all HTML elements. Does anyone has experienced this bug as well? And maybe found a workaround? Or maybe found a pattern which helps to find out what exactly is triggering this bug?

How to determine the default duration of a long-press
Using gesture recognizers it is easy to implement a long-press gesture to open a menu, show a preview or something else on the iOS platform. And you can provide the duration the user must hold down the finger until the gesture recognizer fires. But I could not yet find out how to determine the default duration for a long-press gesture that is configured in the system settings within the "accessibility" settings under "Haptic Touch" (the available options are fast, standard and slow here). Is it possible to read out this setting, so my App can adapt to this system setting as well?

Swift Compiler Issue?
I've encountered a strange issue with Swift and I wonder if this is a compiler error or if I didn't understand something correctly. The following sample code shows a weird issue (please ignore that the demo code itself would not make that much sense in this form, it's just the version from a big and more complicated project, where this would make more sense): class Test { var data: [String:[String:String]] = [:] func test() { let setValue: ((String, String, String) -> Void) = { [weak self] key, id, value in if self!.data[key] == nil { self!.data[key] = [:] } let oldValue = self!.data[key]![id] if oldValue == nil { self!.data[key]![id] = value } } setValue("0", "1", "2") } } When changing the "data" dictionary through the closure within the "test()" function, everything works as expected until the "if" condition where the oldValue is checked against nil. If I set a break point to this condition, the Xcode debugger tells me that oldValue is nil (which is expected), but the code within the if condition is NOT executed. The comparison oldValue == nil should be be true (because oldValue is actually nil), but the compiler seems to assume something else. But If I do not user "self!" but instead "self?" then it does work as expected and the code within the if condition is executed. What I am missing here? Is this the correct behavior or a compiler bug?

Anything better?

iPadOS 26.1: new issue with traitCollection when changing dark mode

In both cases I do get the URL and file just fine, however I do not want to get new UIScenes and windows created when receiving a file via share sheet. How can I prevent to get a new UIScene or window? The received files should be used in the existing windows and should not create new ones.
