How to implement background asset downloading feature?
I want to use features described in the background assets WWDC22 session (https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2022/110403/). In earlier versions of Xcode 14 beta there used to be a background asset extension target type, however this got removed in beta 5 and has still not been put back even though Xcode 14 RC is released. With Xcode 14 beta 4, if the background asset target was chosen then a bunch of template code was created, same as happens with any extension type. But if the background asset extension target type isn't even present in the Xcode 14 RC, how is one supposed to create an extension and use this new feature?

LLMs within Xcode - Why can't the model within an agent be selected but can within chat?
If I use the Claude Code agent within Xcode 27 beta 2, it defaults to Opus 4.8, but that burns through tokens too quickly so I'd like to switch it to Opus 4.7 or Sonnet, but there's no way to change that anywhere in Xcode that I can see? Also, if I use Chat, rather than the agent, then Xcode lets you select models, however for Claude it only offers Sonnet 4.5. Why? Why not 4.6 at least? Where are these limitations coming from? It's not from Claude so it must be Xcode Why are these limitations present?

Builds not appearing in Testflight
A few days ago I uploaded a build to Testflight successfully. Just now I made absolutely no changes whatsoever other than to increment the build number. This latest build doesn't appear in Testflight. Tell me this can't be anything other than a bug with Testflight, if a build from a few days was good enough to appear, then how come with no changes it no longer is.

Is it possible for an iOS app extension to support App Attest?
From watching the video on App Attest the answer would appear to be no, but the video is a few years old so in hope, I thought I would post this question anyway. There's several scenarios where I would like a notification service extension to be able to use App Attest in communications with the back end(for example to send a receipt to the backend acknowledging receipt of the push, fetching an image from a url in the push payload, a few others). Any change App Attest can be used in by a notification service extension?

Age verification again: What does "applicable region" mean wrt isEligibleForAgeFeatures
The documentation for isEligibleForAgeFeatures states: Use this property to determine whether a person using your app is in an applicable region that requires additional age-related obligations for when you distribute apps on the App Store. But what does "region" mean? Is this going to return true if the user has downloaded the app from the US App Store? Or will it go further and geolocate the user and identify them as being within a particular relevant state within the US?

Not seeing any AI/Agent options in Xcode 26.3
I've installed Xcode 26.3 on Sequoia 15.7.3 but I'm not seeing any of the AI options showing in Xcode that I see in usage/example videos. For example that AI icon in the top left hand corner isn't visible, and if I select Settings there is no Intelligence section, yet there is in all the demo videos. Why am I not seeing any of these new features?

What are the image requirements for the logo for Live Caller ID?
When Live Caller ID first came out I experimented with it and got it working using the Example PIR database. All my links from that time are now out of date and no longer work, however I seem to have found where the PIR database example and documentation has moved to (https://swiftpackageindex.com/apple/pir-service-example/main/documentation/pirservice/testinginstructionslivecalleridlookup) But what I can't find is an exact definition of the the logo size/max size/dimensions/format should be. My memory from that time is that it was very pernickety, and if things weren't exactly right, the logo wasn't displayed. I can remember the format had to be HEIC to get it to work. Looking through the documentation however, I can't see exact requirements specified. My question is - for the Live Caller ID logo what are the exact image requirements, and where are they documented?

Text filtering: behavior of current message is affected by behavior of past message from same origin
If there is this situation: A text message is sent from a sender and gets classified as junk (by a text filtering extension) with the result that it gets send to the spam folder as expected. A text message with different content is sent from the same sender and gets classified as allowed, however it also gets sent to the spam folder. If the above is repeated but after step 1 the message is deleted, then in step 2 the message doesn't get sent to the spam folder. So the presence of the message from step 1 being in the spam folder is having an effect on the behavior of step 2. Expected beahavour (if so, why?), or a defect?

Why is Xcode taking forever to install/launch app?
Ever since Xcode 15 and iOS 17 came out development has quite often been a nightmare of waiting and waiting -Xcode displaying endless circles saying preparing the device, connecting to the device, installing the device. But recently to add to this, installation and launching is just taking really forever. I'm currently running Xcode 15.1 and various versions of iOS 17 (I have several phones) and installing the app from Xcode takes about 7 - 10 minutes (compared to the same app installing in seconds with Xcode 14 for example). Then once its finally installed, it then takes further minutes to launch, Xcode often actually displays a dialog saying its taking longer than expected to launch the app, adding the footnote "LLDB is likely reading from device memory to resolve symbols." What could be reasons, and solutions, for the excruciatingly slow installation time, and launch time? I really need to find a solution to this please - making a code change tweak, running, making another, running, making another, running, just isn't possible given the length of time it takes to install and launch each time. The iPhone is connected via physical cable to the Mac, and the Mac and iPhone are both on the same Wifi network. Xcode 15.1 M1 Macbook Pro Sonomo 14.0 iOS 17.2

"Final reminder: Answer the updated age ratings questions." But there are no questions
I received the email from Apple entitled "Final reminder: Answer the updated age ratings questions." However if I login to App Connect, or click on the link in the email to go directly to App Connect, there are no questions. There are 6 tabs/sections in App Connect, flicking through them, there are no questions about age ratings. Even if I could find these questions, if there are no apps actually released to the App Store (and no plans to release any) is answering these questions necessary? The Apple email sounds quite threatening in its tone, hinting at consequences if you don't comply, but I can't comply because no questions in App Connect are being presented.

Unexpected behavior with multiple apps installed which use shared groups
If I have two iOS apps, with bundle ids com.mycompany.A and com.mycompany.B, and they both have the shared group id of group.com.mycompany.B, then they can read/write data to same file (in shared defaults or, for example, a Realm database saved to the same shared group location). What I have noticed is that if both apps get installed and some data X written to shared defaults (but data which isn't accessed by both apps i.e. if only app A uses this data), then if app A is deleted and reinstalled then X is not deleted in this situation (unless both apps A and B are deleted). I guess that is to be expected as they both use the same group id and the OS won't clear that area out unless both apps are deleted. However I think I am seeing a situation where if app A has group.com.mycompany.A as its group and app B has group.com.mycompany.B as its group, then this is still the same situation - data written by app B for doesn't get deleted if only app B is deleted/reinstalled on the phone. It won't get deleted unless both app B and A are deleted from the phone. This is not what I was expecting. I need to perform some more checks (its more complex to verify as app A is developed by one company and app B by another), but if this were to be the case would this be unexpected behavior by the OS? Presumably it would be unexpected as the container should be identified by the full group id and not a partial portion of the group id right?

Can an iOS app programmatically detect if it's built for release or debug?
Is it possible for an iOS app to programmatically detect if its built for TestFlight/App Store distribution versus built for development? The motivation for doing this is so that the app can detect if a push server should send pushes using the Apple production server or the sandbox server - when the app sends the push token to the server, I'd like it to additionally send an indicator to the server so the server knows which of the Apple servers to use. Is there a way to achieve this? TIA

The relationship between age verification and permission kit isn't clear (IMO)
I'm trying to digest and understand the new set of APIs relating age verification that were released last week. I have say that without some cohesive overview, example app, just a simple diagram showing the relationship of everything, its not at all clear to me what's going on nor what an app developer is expected to do to use these apis (I'm a senior engineer with 15 year's iOS experience, but hey maybe I'm just a bit slow in the head). I have a few questions, but the topic of this post is what is the relationship between age verification i.e. between the declared age range/significant change and Permission Kit? The documentation for the former mentions the Significant Change API/Topic (https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=2ezb6jhj / https://developer.apple.com/documentation/PermissionKit/SignificantAppUpdateTopic). Now the Significant Change Topic is documented as being part of PermissionKit, however the documentation for that (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/permissionkit) States emphatically at the top: "Communication experiences using the PermissionKit framework are only available using iMessage." Meaning you can't use PermissionKit for anything other than iMessage? If it doesn't mean that, then why does it state so? If it does mean that, then how does an app which has nothing to do with iMessage make use of Significant Change - because this documentation:https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=2ezb6jhj Is talking about using significant change for all apps, not iMessage. So there is a contradiction here.

Age verification: How to obtain the method of age assurance?
In the summary documentation about the declared Age Range API:https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=2ezb6jhj It states: "The API will also return a signal from the user’s device about the method of age assurance, such as credit card or government ID" But if the api itself, and its documentation is examined, there is no such mechanism nor mention of it: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/declaredagerange/agerangeservice So my question is, is the first documentation incorrect, if not, then where and how to access the method of age assurance?
