I encountered code signing issue with Apple Distribution certificate for both iOS and MacCatalyst. The app crashes with "Beta Profile".
I followed this instruction to manually re-sign my ipa to confirm that I use the Apple Distribution and the correct Provisioning Profile.
https://gist.github.com/WDUK/4239548f76bd77b2c4b0
When I double click on the Apple Distribution certificate in KeyChain Access, it shows "Extension: Apple Mac App Signing (Development)" and "Extension: Apple Developer Certificate (Submission)"
I have been stuck in this issue for more than a month. I really need help because I do not know how to proceed further.
Thank you.

To learn how to develop/distribute a DriverKit driver (DEXT) and a UserClient app correctly, I am trying to run the following sample dext and app.
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/driverkit/communicating-between-a-driverkit-extension-and-a-client-app?language=objc
I walked throught steps in README.md included in the project and faced issues.
First, I referred the "Configure the Sample Code Project" section in the README.md and configured the sample code project to build with automatic signing.
I could run the app and activate the dext successfully and made sure the app could communicate with the dext.
Next, I tried the manual signing.
I followed steps described in the "Configure the Sample Code Project" section carefully.
The following entitlements has already been assigned to my team account.
DriverKit Allow Any UserClient Access
DriverKit USB Transport - VendorID
DriverKit
I could build both app and dext and could run the app.
However, when I clicked the "Install Dext" button to activate the dext, I got the following error:
sysex didFailWithError: extension category returned error
Am I missing something?
I would also like to know detailed steps to publicly distribute my dext and app using our Developer ID Application Certificate, as README.md only shows how to configure the project for development.

I do have background Modes added to Xcode. How can I fix this?
Automatic signing failed
Xcode failed to provision this target. Please file a bug report at https://feedbackassistant.apple.com and include the Update Signing report from the Report navigator.
Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: com.designoverhaul.bladerunner" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.background-modes entitlement.
I emailed Dev Support but they said they cant help.
Thank you.
Can you please revoke my developer id application and installer certs? So i may recreate.
I deleted the private key by mistake before realizing i cannot recreate everything using the developer website portal. I dont have macos backup or did i backup my certs with attached pkey.
I just did not realize this was important until now.
Please help as Im now blocked. I opened a case too but i have not yet got a response. its been 3 days now. case id: 20000093632858
My app is a Safari extension. When trying to validate the app, I get the following error:
App sandbox not enabled. The following executables must include the "com.apple.security.app-sandbox" entitlement with a Boolean value of true in the entitlements property list: [( "app.rango.Rango.pkg/Payload/Rango for Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Rango for Safari" )] Refer to App Sandbox page at https://developer.apple.com/documentation/security/app_sandbox for more information on sandboxing your app.
I don't know why this is happening. I have app sandbox enabled in both the app and the extension target. I have both entitlement files. When executing codesign -d --entitlements :- /path/to/binary I get the following:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "https://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"><plist version="1.0"><dict><key>com.apple.security.app-sandbox</key><true/><key>com.apple.security.files.user-selected.read-only</key><true/><key>com.apple.security.get-task-allow</key><true/><key>com.apple.security.network.client</key><true/></dict></plist>
If I check on Activity Monitor, on the sandbox column it shows true. I have no idea why I keep getting this error when all indicates that the app is actually sandboxed.
We have a MacOS application that we plan on distributing standalone (it'll be installed through MDM or directly, not through the app store). We utilize endpoint security and full disk access for this (enterprise) app. I have a makefile that uses codesign to sign the app inside-out. All that appears to work (i.e., when I try to run the app directly it functions as I expect it to).
What's the recommended way to allow the developers in my team to also sign the app for local development so it functions as close as possible to production? My first thought is to distribute the developer identity to their machines using MDM. However, ideally i'd like to rule out the ability for a developer who has the MDM profile assigned to export the keys. That really only leaves a centralized solution in place or disabling SIP on their system (which I don't want to do). Alternatively, would creating a separate identity for production make more sense, so that in the case the developer certificate is revoked, the production releases continue to function as normal (however, I assume this would also require creating two different profiles for the endpoint security entitlement--one for each certificate).
Thanks!
Derek

The process has been stuck "In Progress" for 8 days now. We had a scheduled New Year Offer for our software that would run based around this important new update, and obviously we missed it because of this crazy issue. Notarization used to take a few seconds. Now it does not work, neither on my newly set up Mac, nor in my old (completely unchanged) one.
My company and finances are totally frozen at this point due to this issue. PLEASE help, look into my actual account and do what is needed!

Hi folks,
I'm trying to generate a provisioning profile that includes both Healthkit and MusicKit entitlements.
The healthKit pieces if fine, and included in the profile. However, despite selecting Musickit under services in the ID setup, the entitlement doesn't seem to be included in the profile.
Other steps taken: Setup the app in App Store Connect, generated a media ID and Key. Tried both automatic and manual signing.
Are there specifics tricks to getting this one to work?
Hi,
We have an app that is a default mail client, so it has this entry in its entitlements file: com.apple.developer.mail-client. This seems to create issues with ad-hoc distribution.
We can distribute the app on App Store Connect without any issues and have been doing so for a while.
We wanted to try using Xcode Cloud to manage our releases. The app export works fine for both App Store Distribution and Development Distribution.
However, the ad-hoc distribution step fails. (We don't need ad-hoc distribution, but Xcode Cloud seems to prevent us from removing this step.)
I tried building and releasing the app locally for ad-hoc distribution and encountered the same error as on Xcode Cloud.
When Xcode tries to generate the profile, it outputs the following error:
Provisioning profile "iOS Team Ad Hoc Provisioning Profile: com.infomaniak.mail" failed qualification checks:
Profile doesn't support Default Mail App.
Profile doesn't include the com.apple.developer.mail-client entitlement.
Is it something broken with our config ? What are we missing ?

Hello everyone,
I’ve been stuck for weeks on an issue with Family Controls + Device Activity entitlements in my iOS app, and Apple Developer Support has not provided a solution so far. I’m hoping someone here who has successfully implemented Family Controls + Device Activity can point me in the right direction.
About the App
• The app is a Digital Wellbeing app called Breakloop.
• It lets users select apps they want to block, requires them to complete a positive affirmation before opening those apps, and can re-block apps after a set time (e.g., 10 minutes).
• This functionality exactly matches the purpose of Family Controls and Device Activity APIs.
What Works So Far
• Family Controls capability is enabled in the main app target in Xcode.
• We have valid Apple Developer certificates (Apple Development) and a team account.
• The main app builds and runs fine when using Family Controls alone.
• We have App IDs for:
• bl.Breakloop (main app)
• bl.Breakloop.BreakloopMonitorExtension
• bl.Breakloop.BreakloopShieldConfigurationExtension
The Problem
The provisioning profiles for the extension targets (BreakloopMonitorExtension and BreakloopShieldConfigurationExtension) do not include the com.apple.developer.device-activity entitlement even though:
• The App IDs in the Developer Portal have Family Controls (Development) enabled.
• The extensions have the correct entitlements file with both:
com.apple.developer.family-controls
com.apple.developer.device-activity
• Xcode Signing & Capabilities points to the correct provisioning profile + certificate.
Because the provisioning profiles don’t include the entitlement, the build fails with:
Provisioning profile doesn't include the com.apple.developer.device-activity entitlement.
What Apple Support Said
Apple Support told me:
• “Family Controls grants access to Device Activity.”
• They cannot enable it manually or guarantee that profiles will include the entitlement.
• They sent links to the documentation but no further assistance.
What I Need Help With
1. Has anyone successfully built extensions using Family Controls + Device Activity?
2. Do I need to request any additional approval for Device Activity, or should it appear automatically once Family Controls is enabled?
3. Is there a known Xcode or Apple Developer Portal configuration issue that causes the entitlement to be missing in provisioning profiles?
4. Any working example of a project setup that uses Family Controls + Device Activity in extensions would be extremely helpful.
Extra Info
• We use the latest Xcode + iOS SDK.
• Tried recreating certificates, profiles, and App IDs multiple times.
• Followed Apple’s docs for Family Controls + Device Activity exactly.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance, especially from someone who has this working with iOS app extensions.
Thank you!

Hi,
This is my first time developing for iPhone, and I believe I have encountered an unusual edge case related to user management.
Background:
I work at a very small company currently in the proof-of-concept stage of building an iOS app. We created an Apple account under the company name: Green Vibe, using our corporate email. Initially, I developed the app under the free account on my local iPhone, and everything worked smoothly.
When NFC functionality became necessary, we upgraded to a paid Apple Developer account. At that point, I enrolled as a developer under my personal name (Or Itach) while logged in with the Green Vibe Apple account. I want to emphasize that only one Apple account was created — the Green Vibe account.
The Issue:
When attempting to add NFC, I was able to create the required certificate under the name Or Itach. However, when compiling the project, Xcode prompts me to enter the login password for the user Or Itach. This is problematic because there is no Apple ID associated with that name — only the Apple Developer enrollment under Green Vibe exists.
Request:
Could you please advise on the proper way to resolve this situation? Specifically:
Should the developer enrollment be tied directly to the Green Vibe account rather than to an individual name?
How can I correctly configure the account so that Xcode no longer requires a nonexistent Apple ID password?
Thank you very much for your support and clarification.

I'm having a problem with codesign for output from Pyinstaller
The files are in ~/PycharmProjects/ALP_Document_Factory_II
That folder contains the icon file, the entitlement file, and also contains a "dist" folder where Pyinstaller places the app file (ALP_Document_Factory_II.app)
The generated app works and runs when I double click it.
When I run codesign:
codesign -s xxxxxxxx -f --entitlements entitlements.plist -o runtime dist/ALP_Document_Factory_II.app
("xxxxxxx" is where I place the hash of my credential)
I get the following error message: No such file or directory
Here is the Terminal copy... minus my Hash
dickl45@Dicks-iMac3 ALP_Document_Factory_II % codesign -s xxxxxxxxxx -f --entitlements entitlements.plist -o runtime dist/ALP_Document_Factory_II.app
dist/ALP_Document_Factory_II.app: No such file or directory
Earlier I was able to use codesign and notarytool, but I must be doing something wrong that I can't see.

We have a command line script that runs xcodebuild to make an archive, then runs xcodebuild again to export the archive to make an ipa, and then runs "altool --validate-app" to check that everything will be fine for a subsequent upload to the app store. This has been working fine for a few years but recently stopped working and we cannot figure out why.
The validation fails with this error:
ERROR: [altool.105912F20] Validation failed (409) Invalid Provisioning Profile. The provisioning profile included in the com. bundle [Payload/.app] is invalid. [Missing code-signing certificate]. A distribution provisioning profile should be used when uploading apps to App Store Connect. (ID: )
The project is configured with 'Automatically manage signing' unchecked, and the profile was created on developer.apple.com/account/resources/profiles and the matching profile magically appears in the "Provisioning Profile" drop down in Xcode.
The profile was created with two certificates checked, but examining the embedded.mobileprovision profile that ends up in the compiled ipa payload it appears to contain 19 certificates (probably all of them for this org?).
Is there a way to find out which certificate is missing exactly? And once identified is it a case of adding it to the profile used during compilation to fix this?
Ancillary question: why does the embedded.mobileprovision file contain so many certificates, and how does xcodebuild decide which ones it includes there?

I created an MadOS app with xcode 16.5 with a developer id certificate. I've been trying to install a distribution certificate for over a week with several co-workers. I can add a distribution certificate to my key chain, and created a provisioning profile. I've tried every combination but none work. I put xcode in automatic signing but can only see my developer id, if I put it in manual with and without a provisioning profile but if I give the app binary, other users can't run the app because the certificate isn't working. I need support to work with me to look the developer portal and my system to figure this out.

Hi!
I've been scratching my brain for a few days now to no avail.
I have a Perl project that I need to embed within my app. Perl includes a pp command (https://metacpan.org/pod/pp) which takes the runtime binary and then slaps the Perl code at the end of the binary itself which in brings some woes in a sense that the binary then needs to be "fixed" (https://github.com/rschupp/PAR-Packer/tree/master/contrib/pp_osx_codesign_fix) by removing the linker-provided signature and fixing LINKEDIT and LC_SYMTAB header sections of the binary.
Nevertheless, I've successfully gotten the binary built, fixed up and codesigned it via codesign -s '$CS' mytool (where $CS is the codesigning identity). I can verify the signature as valid using codesign -v --display mytool:
Identifier=mytool
Format=Mach-O thin (arm64)
CodeDirectory v=20400 size=24396 flags=0x0(none) hashes=757+2 location=embedded
Signature size=4820
Signed Time=5. 1. 2026 at 8:54:53 PM
Info.plist=not bound
TeamIdentifier=XXXXXXX
Sealed Resources=none
Internal requirements count=1 size=188
It runs without any issues in Terminal, which is great.
As I need to incorporate this binary in my app which is sandboxed, given my experience with other binaries that I'm including in the app, I need to codesign the binary with entitlements com.apple.security.app-sandbox and com.apple.security.inherit. So, I run:
codesign -s '$CS' --force --entitlements ./MyTool.entitlements --identifier com.charliemonroe.mytool mytool
... where the entitlements file contains only the two entitlements mentioned above.
Now I add the binary to the Xcode project, add it to the copy resources phase and I can confirm that it's within the bundle and that it's codesigned:
codesign -vvvv --display MyApp.app/Contents/Resources/mytool
Identifier=com.xxx.xxx.xxx

Quarantine, hum? So I ran:
xattr -l MyApp.app/Contents/Resources/mytool
None listed.
It is a signed binary within a signed app. There are other binaries that are included within the app and run just fine exactly this way (most of them built externally using C/C++ and then codesigned exectly as per above), so I really don't think it's an issue with the app's sandbox setup...
Is there anyone who would be able to help with this? Thank you in advance!
Hi everyone,
Native Instruments is encountering a critical issue with the notarization process. The xcrun notary submit command appears to be stuck and is not completing, preventing us from notarizing our apps.
Specifically, the command hangs indefinitely.
This issue started today. We've already tried the following troubleshooting steps:
Cancelling and re-running the command
Checking my internet connection
Checking the Apple System Status page
Cleaning the build folder
using a different machine
This is a major blocker for our company, as it's preventing from from us from testing and releasing some of our products.
It seems to be a similar issue as reported in https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/772542?page=2.
Has anyone else experienced xcrun notary submit getting stuck like this? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm particularly interested in knowing if there are any known issues with the notarization service currently.
Details about my setup:
Xcode Version: 16.1
macOS Version: 14.7.1
App Type: macOS app
Thanks in advance for your help!

New to working with xcode and building apps. I started last weekend, and deploying to my usb connected iPhone 16 was working great all week. Yesterday, I upgraded to a paid developer account to start using TestFlight, and I could no longer deploy to my phone.
Failed to install embedded profile for com.spred.spred-alpha : 0xe800801a (This provisioning profile does not have a valid signature (or it has a valid, but untrusted signature).)
i using automatic provisioning - not a custom provisioning profile.
i have tried:
deleting all the certificates in keychain for my developer account and recreating them, and also doing the same in the developer portal.
logging out and logging back in with my developer id in xcode
deleting the app bundle directory and all other associated files in the Xcode/DerivedData directory
reinstalling Xcode
cleaning my build directory and trying again.
changing the bundle identifier to a new name. (It always matches the portal app name)
Among other things. It just won’t work. I can run the app inn a simulator, but not get it deployed to my phone.
what else can I do? The only things I can think of are that somehow Xcode is still stuck using the free account somehow, or that the free account cert originally used expired after 7 days, and now I’m in some stuck state.

Whilst waiting for the company developer account I successfully notarised an app/pkg
On switching to the company account the app/pkg has been stuck in progress for over 2 days (see below)
The initial submission was via Xcode and later via command line.
The last one was when I updated bundle ids etc and built with Github Actions.
The initial submission did coincide with a service outage, however that is marked as resolved.
I would like to cancel all of them now that I have switched the signing account and the bundle ID but there seems no way to do this?
Thoughts and comments welcome.
Thanks
Paul

Notarization Rejects Valid Developer ID Certificates - Apple Infrastructure Issue?

macOS: 15.6.1
Xcode: 26.0.1
Architecture: arm64 (Apple Silicon)
Team ID: W----------
Certificate Status: Valid until 2030 (verified on developer.apple.com)
Problem
Apple's notarization service consistently rejected properly signed packages with error:
"The binary is not signed with a valid Developer ID certificate."
Despite:
✅ Valid certificates on developer.apple.com
✅ Local signing succeeds (codesign --verify passes)
✅ Proper certificate/key pairing verified
✅ Package structure correct

What I've Tried
Re-downloaded fresh certificates from Apple Developer Portal
Verified certificate chain locally
Tested with multiple different builds
Confirmed Team ID matches across all configurations
Verified no unsigned nested components
Waited 3 months for potential propagation delays
Verified all agreements are current and accepted
Re-tested with minimal test package - same error persists
Local Verification
# Certificates present and valid
security find-identity -v -p codesigning | grep "Developer ID"
1) XXXXXXXXXX "Developer ID Application: <<REDACTED>> (W----------)"
2) XXXXXXXXXX "Developer ID Installer: <<REDACTED>> (W----------)"
# Signing succeeds
codesign --verify --deep --strict --verbose=2 [app] → Success
Question
This appears similar to thread #784184. After 3 months and ensuring all agreements are signed, the issue persists with identical error.
The certificates work for local signing but Apple's notarization service rejects them. Could this be:
Backend infrastructure issue with Team ID W----------?
Certificate not properly registered in Apple's notarization database?
Known issue requiring Apple Support intervention?
Has anyone else experienced valid Developer ID certificates being rejected specifically by the notarization service while working locally?
