I am new to Mac and. shortcuts. I am trying to. keep track of a date so that the shortcut knows the last time the shoiortcut was used. I tried using the action 'File' but having trouble figuring how to use it. Does a file need to be created first? Please. if anything point me where to find info. Thanks

After updating to iOS 26.6 I noticed a regression in Shortcuts automations. I created two simple automations: When App Is Opened → Show Notification “OPEN” When App Is Closed → Show Notification “CLOSE” Steps: Open Safari (or any app). Open Control Center or Notification Center. Actual result: “CLOSE” is triggered immediately. Dismissing Control Center or Notification Center does not trigger “OPEN”. Expected: Opening system overlays should not generate an App Closed event because the foreground application remains active. Device: iPhone 13 mini iOS: 26.6 Can anyone else reproduce this?

Hello, I have a question about App Intents and the Action button on iPhone. I have an App Intent that opens the app and navigates to a specific entity, conforming to OpenIntent with a single AppEntity parameter. The entity conforms to EnumerableEntityQuery, and the intent is registered as an App Shortcut via the AppShortcutsProvider. When assigning this shortcut to the Action button in Settings, the system doesn’t prompt the user to select a default entity upfront. Instead, it prompts on every activation, creating friction. In contrast, shortcuts like “Open Note…” and other third-party ones prompt the user for a note to open when setting up the Action button, and its title also includes three dots, indicating a pre-configurable parameter. My shortcut’s title shows no dots. What’s required to make an App Shortcut prompt for a default parameter during Action button setup? Sincerely, Holger

I have created a share extension for my app which supports accepting an image. However the app do not appear in the "Share with App" action of shortcuts. It only shows "Health" and "Reminders" which are default apple apps. What I found though is that if I open some other app like Photos and share an image from it, then go to end of app's list and click more. And in the list if I toggle my app off and on again. And then come back to shourtcuts app, the app then appears. Step 1: Open share sheet, click more Step 2: Toggle the app off and on again and save. And then it switching to shortcuts app, it appear now. I am unable to find a way on how to make this app's share extension support the "Share with app" action of shortcuts by default. This looks like a bug. I did not find any proper documentation as well for this. Can anyone point me to correct way / resource to add my app as supported app here out of the box. I've adopted the .reminders.createReminder schema so users can create reminders in my app via Siri and Apple Intelligence. My app only supports a subset of the schema (title, list, and note), but the macro requires me to declare all the other parameters (e.g. isFlagged, tags), so I declare them and ignore them in perform(). The problem: in the Shortcuts app, every declared parameter shows up as an editable field, so it looks like my app supports flags, tags, etc when it doesn't, and the values are silently ignored if the user sets them. Is there a supported way to keep parameters my app can't fulfill from appearing in Shortcuts while still conforming to the schema? The best workaround I've found is to mark the schema intent isAssistantOnly = true (which hides it from Shortcuts while keeping it available to Siri/Apple Intelligence), and then use AppShortcutsProvider to provide a separate non-schema AppIntent that exposes just title/list/note to Shortcuts. However, the docs describe isAssistantOnly as a migration aid that's only intended to be enabled temporarily while migrating an existing intent to an app schema intent. Questions: Is that a supported use of the isAssistantOnly property? Is there a way to mark individual parameters as unsupported so they do not appear in Shortcuts? Is there another recommended approach when an app can only fulfill part of a schema? Thank you!

Hello, I am trying to set up App Shortcuts with App Intents in my app, which has an accent (é) in the name. I'm having an issue with the Shortcuts app. All I get is a blank screen before it crashes. I have force-closed the app, hard-booted my iPhone, offloaded it, and deleted and reinstalled it. I'm trying to run a MacOS shortcut using the "Run JavaScript on Active Safari Tab" action. I consistently get the error "Make sure that 'Allow JavaScript from Apple Events' is enabled in the Develop menu in Safari." The Develop menu in Safari does not contain this switch (in Tahoe 26.5.1), but if you go to Developer Settings... a dialog opens that includes the required switch. I've ensured that the switch is set on, but I continue to get the runtime error in the shortcut JavaScript. What am I missing?

Use Case I’m currently developing , a hiking and cycling app. I’d like to use Siri AI in iOS/watchOS 27 to create an experience like this: While users are recording an activity in app, they can raise their wrist or invoke Siri on iPhone and simply ask: “How much farther to the destination?” “How far have I already gone?” “How much elevation gain is left?” “How far is it to the next waypoint?” … Siri can then answer based on the app’s current workout context. Since there are many metrics like these, and it’s not convenient to look at the screen while cycling or trail running, this could be a really valuable use case if Siri AI can support it. I defined an AppEntity like this, and then associated it with the UI. But I found that Siri AI doesn’t seem to understand this AppEntity. It can only understand the content it can see on the screen, even though I can see that it did execute ToobooWorkoutSessionQuery, the EntityQuery. This screen has multiple tabs. Siri understood the on-screen values such as “Distance: 0.21 mi” and “Remaining Distance: 0.14 mi”, but it didn’t know the data from the other tabs on the same page, such as heart rate, average speed, and so on. So it seems that Siri is directly reading the screen, instead of retrieving the information from the AppEntity I actually provided. Is this because the AppEntity doesn’t use one of the schemas defined by AppSchemaEntity, so Siri AI can’t understand it? App Intents without a schema seem to have a similar issue. If the AppIntent I define is not within one of those schemas, Siri won’t directly execute it either. My current solution: I defined many Intents and Shortcuts. Siri AI’s ability to parse shortcuts seems to be much smarter in the new system, and it can match them quite easily. Also, shortcuts don’t require the app to be in the foreground. However, when talking to Siri, the shortcut phrase has to include the app name, which feels a bit unnatural. For example: “How far have I traveled in xxx app?”

Hello, I have an AppEntity with an EntityQuery that conforms to EnumerableEntityQuery by providing an allEntities() method. This creates a default "Find" action in the Shortcuts app for that entity, including automatic filtering on primitive properties such as dates and numbers. The entity has an AppEnum property. However, the "Find" action returns zero results when filtering by that property – even though the enum value is correctly displayed when using the "View" action on the same entity. Conforming to EntityPropertyQuery and manually defining comparators does fix the enum filtering, but it replaces all of the system-generated filtering, requiring me to reimplement comparators for every property I want to remain filterable. Is this the intended behavior, or is automatic filtering on AppEnum properties something that should be supported out of the box? Sincerely, Holger

Previously, we used NSUserActivity to enable invoking specific in-app features from the Shortcuts app. This worked as expected up to iOS 17, but it no longer works on iOS 18 and later. We’ve confirmed that the same functionality can be achieved by using App Intents as an alternative. Question. Is the change in iOS 18—where NSUserActivity-based Shortcuts integration no longer works (or is restricted)—an intentional behavior change? If so, could you point us to any relevant documentation or release notes describing this change? We’ve tried to find information ourselves but haven’t found any clear references. Request. In cases like this where an OS update impacts existing implementations, it would be very helpful if such changes were clearly documented in release notes or API change logs in advance.

Will it continue to be the case that Wi-Fi details such as signal strength are only available via the 'Get Network Details' shortcut. Are there any changes here in iOS 27? Also, despite console logs showing that calls to Get Network Details produces a lot more details, only a restricted amount are exposed in the shortcut. In particular there is no channel bandwidth provided - is that purposeful or are there ways to access this detail.

I’m trying to group my EntityPropertyQuery selection into sections as well as making it searchable. I know that the EntityStringQuery is used to perform the text search via entities(matching string: String). That works well enough and results in this modal: Though, when I’m using a DynamicOptionsProvider to section my EntityPropertyQuery, it doesn’t allow for searching anymore and simply opens the sectioned list in a menu like so: How can I combine both? I’ve seen it in other apps, but can’t figure out why my code doesn’t allow to section the results and make it searchable? Any ideas? With support from Apple’s customer service, I was encouraged to bring this idea to life. The automation’s purpose is to open a specified iOS app, move it to the background, and use a txt database in Folders to ensure uninterrupted data flow and continuous connectivity—especially useful for health apps where wearable devices need consistent, uninterrupted operation and monitoring (e.g., doctor tracking or wearable device connectivity). We are observing a regression in iOS 26.4 related to AppIntents, specifically AppEntity + EntityQuery. When using a single AppIntent with a parameter backed by AppEntity and EntityQuery, the query correctly returns multiple entities (e.g. ~50 items). However, in the Shortcuts app UI, only a single item is displayed. This behavior differs from iOS 26.3 and earlier, where all returned entities are correctly displayed in the selection list. This issue significantly impacts dynamic configuration use cases where AppEntity is used to represent server-driven or runtime-generated options.(The screenshots below illustrate the difference in shortcut presentation between iOS 26.4 and earlier versions.)

While I was creating a shortcut using the dictionary function I encountered a bug. When creating a new dictionary to store the date and some other stuff I set a value to the current date variable. I went to change the date format to one I preferred I was unable to access the submenu to do so. To figure out what was going on I did some testing and here is what I found: You can't access the submenu of any inserted variable This only happens in newly created dictionaries You can be fix the dictionary by simply closing and opening the shortcut This bug does not happen on Iphone How to make this bug happen: Open any shortcut Create a new dictionary Add a variable in the value field You can no longer access the sub menu to edit the variable.
