When I try to promote schema to production, I get following error:
Cannot promote schema with empty type 'workspace', please delete the record type before attempting to migrate the schema again
However, in hierarchical root record sharing, I think it should be completely legit use case where there is empty root record (in my case workspace) to which other records reference through ->parent reference.
Am I missing something? Is this weird constraint imposed on CloudKit?
I’ve been testing the iOS Peripheral throughput using a modified version of Apple’s “Transferring Data Between Bluetooth Low Energy Devices” sample app.
I attempted to send 1 MB (1,048,576 bytes) of data in 512-byte notification packets from a Peripheral iPhone (iPhone SE 3rd gen) to a Central iPhone (iPhone 13 Pro). The transfer took 40.7 seconds, resulting in an effective throughput of approximately 206.11 kbps. I noticed that nearly all the delay occurs while waiting for the peripheralManagerIsReady(toUpdateSubscribers:) callback after the second packet is sent.
I’ve seen reports of throughput around 1300 kbps on 2M PHY (or 700 kbps on 1M PHY). Could anyone advise how to optimize my Peripheral implementation to achieve throughput closer to 1300 kbps?
Thank you!
Hi,
I'm trying to setup PIR service for live caller id lookup (in python but based on swift example: https://github.com/apple/live-caller-id-lookup-example). The swift example provides utilities for database setup and encryption, but I can't find any specification about which key is used for database encryption and how the ios system knows about this key in order to be able to construct the PIR requests.
So my question is how does the PIR service communicate the secret key to ios system or vice versa? (specific to the test environment, before onboarding)
There is one xpc server and two xpc clients (clientA and clientB). When clientB sends a message to the xpc server, xpc server fills a value for dummyString in it's memory and I want clientA to know that dummyString got updated and also the new value for this dummyString. The updation of dummyString is not something that happens often.
Two options we tried:
Have a timer for 5 seconds in clientA and keep polling and request for the value of this dummyString.
Setup a darwin notification in server that gets posted whenever dummyString is being updated. clientA receives requests for dummyString value only when it observes a notification being posted.
Which of these two approaches causes the least delay for clientA to know the updated value of dummyString?
on a span of 4 months we sent 2 for nfc entitlement requests and refused , no reason nothing . i mean all we want is the ability to use nfc on passes nothing else , no idea why this is so complex . with google you don’t even need a developer account and it’s for free , here we pay and we can’t even get the full functionality the passes offer , we got the hardware and the solution but we find out we need an nfc entitlement to allow passes to have nfc ? i mean our use case is very simple instead of having barcode on the passes we want them to be via nfc and we already got the nfc hardware but we find out we need nfc entitlement which we tried requesting but getting refused with no reason at all. at least tell u what is the problem what how to fix it not outright refuse without any reason at all. if anyone got any solution please provide.
We have implementend Storekit 2 in our app, for one time purchases and subscriptions, so it is iOS15 and higher only.
Everything works fine, but now we want to add App Store promotions for our IAP's. That doesn't work because the App requires the app to implement SKPaymentTransactionObserver
How to Promote Your In-App Purchases
Make sure your app supports a delegate method in SKPaymentTransactionObserver. You can choose to customize which promoted in-app purchases a user sees on a specific device by implementing SKProductStorePromotionController.
The problem is that this observer is part of the original Storekit API and not of the new one.
What can we do to make this work with the new Storekit 2 API?
Hi Apple Team,
we reiceved the following message.
Hello, We’re reaching out with a final reminder that the Certification Authority (CA) for Apple Push Notification service (APNs) is changing. APNs updated the server certificates in sandbox on January 21, 2025. APNs production server certificates will be updated on February 24, 2025. To continue using APNs without interruption, you’ll need to update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate.
Our web service sends token-based push notifications directly to the Apple Push server.
For testing: https://api.development.push.apple.com:443
In production: https://api.push.apple.com:443
We have never installed any certificates for using APNs.
Do we need to take any action regarding this message, or can we ignore it?
Hello forum,
Hope all is great!
I have a shortcut automation which uses the transaction trigger. Since updating to ios 18 the transaction trigger does not work anymore.
Whenever a transaction is done, the “Running your automation” notification does not show up and the automation does not work.
To share with you the steps I’ve done so far:
1.Remove the automation and do it again
2.Remove the card from apple pay
3. Delete and install again the shortcut app
4. Turned on and off the phone
I can confirm the automation works on my other iPhone with the latest version of IOS 17.
Would really appreciate if anyone has any insights about that, or if this happened to you as well.
Cheers!
Dorin
"As we announced in October, the Certification Authority (CA) for Apple Push Notification service (APNs) is changing. APNs will update the server certificates in sandbox on January 20, 2025, and in production on x date, 2025. To continue using APNs without interruption, you’ll need to update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root : USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate.
To ensure a smooth transition and avoid push notification delivery failures, please make sure that both old and new server certificates are included in the Trust Store before the cut-off date for each of your application servers that connect to sandbox and production. At this time, you don’t need to update the APNs SSL provider certificates issued to you by Apple."
As we are using firebase for receiving notifications and azure notification hub, I read that there is nothing we as developers need to do and will be handled by the providers right?
Hi.
I am developing a custom virtual file system and facing such behaviour:
Upon using some graphical apps, for example Adobe Media Encoder, attempting to navigate inside my filesystem deeper than root folder will fail - nothing will happen on "double click" on that subfolder. Another problem, is that whether I try to re-navigate into root directory, it will be empty.
The problem is not present for most GUI apps - for example navigation inside Finder, upon choosing download path for file in Safari, apps like Microsoft Word, Excel and other range of applications work totally correctly.
A quick note here. From what I have seen - all apps that work correctly actually have calls to VFS_VGET - a predefined vfs layer hook. Whether the Adobe Media Encoder does not call for it - neither in my filesystem, nor in Samba, so my guess is that some applications have different browsing and retrieving algorithm. Is there anything I should examine further ? Default routines (vnop_open, vnop_lookup, vnop_readdir, vnop_close) behave as expected, without any errors.
P.S. This application (Adobe Media Encoder) works properly on Samba.
I just released an App update the didn't touch ANYTHING to do with Core Data (nothing changed in our Coredata code for at least 8 months). The update uses SDK for iOS 18 and Xcode 16.2 and the app now requires iOS 18 and was a minor bug patch and UI improvements for recent iOS changes.
Since the update we are getting a steady trickle of users on iOS 18, some who allow the App to store data in iCloud (Cloudkit) and others who do not, all reporting that after the update to our recent release ALL their data is gone?!
I had not seen this on ANY device until today when I asked a friend who uses the App if they had the issue and it turned out they did, so I hooked their device up to Xcode and ALL the data in the CoreData database was gone?! They are NOT using iCloud. There were no errors or exceptions on Xcode console but a below code returned NO records at all?!
Chart is custom entity and is defined as:
@interface Chart : NSManagedObject {}
let moc = pc.viewContext
let chartsFetch = NSFetchRequest<NSFetchRequestResult>(entityName:"Charts") // Fetch all Charts
do {
let fetchedCharts = try moc.fetch(chartsFetch) as! [Chart]
for chart in fetchedCharts {
....
}
}
A break point inside the do on fetchedCharts show there are NO objects returned.
This is a serious issue and seems like an iOS 18 thing. I saw some people talking in here about NSFetchRequest issues with iOS 18. I need some guidance here from someone Apple engineer here who knows what the status of these NSFetchrequest bugs are and what possible workarounds are. Becasue this problem will grow for me as more users update to iOS 18.
This crash report for one of my apps was downloaded by Xcode. Apparently the app crashed while releasing an object of type Scan.File, which is a Swift class held in an array in the Scan.Directory class. I'm not doing any manual reference counting or low-level stuff with that object.
What could cause such a crash?

I'd like to set up a communication mechanism between the Ui test runner and my iOS app. The purpose is to be able to collect some custom performance metrics in addition to standard ones like scrollingAndDecelerationMetric. Let's say we measure some specific intervals in our code using signposts, then serialize the result into a structured payload and report it back to the runner.
So, are there any good options for that kind of IPC?
The primary concern is running on Simulator. However, since it is not a regular UI test but more a performance UI test, and it is usually recommended to run those on a real device, with release optimizations/flags in place, I wonder if it is feasible to have it for device too.
We uploaded to App Store Connect a new app version with new subscription groups & items. Everything was approved, and we received the emails from App Store connect, but if we visit our App Store Connect account App, some of these subscription items are still "Waiting for review" for more than 4 days. It has no sense as the email informed us that the new app version and all the items had been approved. The app is online, but some subscription items are not available.
We even uploaded a new app version, it was updated, but the subscription items are still "Waiting for review".
Has anyone faced this problem? How do you solved it? We have contacted App Store Connect but it is pretty difficult to get real assistance, most of the time they reply with template email answers.
Background Information
In the macOS operating system environment, Program A uses libusb to access USB devices that comply with the USB Mass Storage protocol. To enable Program A to start automatically after macOS boots, its corresponding plist file has been placed in the /Library/LaunchDaemons directory.
Problem and Phenomenon Description
Program A works well on macOS versions prior to 15.3, and it can access USB devices normally. However, on macOS 15.3, the following abnormal situations have occurred:
A. Program A launched by launchd cannot access the USB device. Checking the logs reveals that the IOCreatePlugInInterfaceForService call in the darwin_claim_interface function returns the error code e00002be.
B. Program A launched from the terminal command line with sudo privileges can access the USB device normally, and the return value of the IOCreatePlugInInterfaceForService call is 0.
My app features two kinds of widgets, let's call them kind A and kind B.
I have both A and B widgets on my Home Screen. When I tap the button on widget A (associated with App Intent), I expect widget B to also reload.
However, if you call WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines() inside the perform() method of the AppIntent, the timeline of widget B does not reload immediately. This issue only occurs on a physical device and is not consistently reproducible. On a simulator, however, widget B reloads as expected.

I've implemented a VPN app with Packet Tunnel Provider for MacOS and iOS.I have two questions regarding the Extension's sleep/wake functions:1. If the VPN configuration is set with disconnectOnSleep = false, and at the extension I'm sending keep-alives every X seconds, What would happen when the device enters sleep mode? Will it keep sending keep-alive (because the VPN is configured with disconnectOnSleep=false) ?2. If the VPN configuration is set with disconnectOnSleep = true, and also isOnDemandEnabled = true. When the device enters sleep mode, do I need to disconnect the VPN myself? Or the OS would take care of it? And if I should disconnect it myself, the on-demand won't try to turn it on again (because the on-demand) ?
way to display it is by holding the Option key and clicking the Wi-Fi icon.
In macOS 14.0, wdutil was still usable, but in 14.6.1, the returned information is now . I am unsure if there is an official way to obtain the corresponding BSSID.
I need to process the BSSID in my code, so either a command-line tool or an API would work.
We are trying to open an application "xyz.app" It worked fine until 15.1.1 versions. But facing issues with 15.2 and 15.3
The application is working fine when we navigate to xyz.app/Contents/MacOS/ and run applet in this directory. But the error "Not authorized to send Apple events to Terminal" occurs when we are trying to open the app directly.
We have tried with all the available solutions like giving full disk access to terminal and application, adding my application to automation in privacy and security tabs in settings.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
