New features for APNs token authentication now available
Team-scoped keys introduce the ability to restrict your token authentication keys to either development or production environments. Topic-specific keys in addition to environment isolation allow you to associate each key with a specific Bundle ID streamlining key management. For detailed instructions on accessing these features, read our updated documentation on establishing a token-based connection to APNs.

[iOS 18] Screen Time Passcode is still NOT compatible with screen time permissions for 3rd party-apps
⬇️ ANYONE ON APPLE'S SCREEN TIME TEAM, PLEASE READ THIS ⬇️ Let's summarize the situation. 3rd-party apps with screen time access can be disabled by going to Settings > Screen Time > Apps with Screen Time Access. That's fine. Now, if I want to make it harder to remove my restrictions, I can ask a friend to enter a Screen Time Passcode for me. Great idea! The problem is my Screen Time Passcode isn't requested when disabling permissions for a third-party app. It's required for modifying any other Screen Time setting EXCEPT permissions for 3rd party apps. This is frustrating. The Screen Time passcode is a great feature. Making it compatible with permissions granted through the Family Controls framework is our NUMBER ONE REQUEST from tens of thousands of users. This feature has been requested for a long time (iOS 16, iOS 17, …): https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/714651 https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/727291 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255421819 FB13548526
If you're a developer working on Screen Time, share your feedback below or file one using Feedback Assistant. It is very disappointing to see it wasn't implemented for iOS 18. I can't believe this would require tremendous work from the Screen Time team to make it happen, but it would be a significant improvement for the Family Controls Framework and a ray of sunshine for all the developers who have worked really hard to deliver high-quality apps using the Screen Time API. Could an Apple engineer or a Screen Time team member give us any updates? Implementing this before the public release of iOS 18 would make A LOT of developers happy.

Importing Data into SwiftData in the Background Using ModelActor and @Query
I have an app with fairly typical requirements - I need to insert some data (in my case from the network but could be anything) and I want to do it in the background to keep the UI responsive. I'm using SwiftData. I've created a ModelActor that does the importing and using the debugger I can confirm that the data is indeed being inserted. On the UI side, I'm using @Query and a SwiftUI List to display the data but what I am seeing is that @Query is not updating as the data is being inserted. I have to quit and re-launch the app in order for the data to appear, almost like the context running the UI isn't communicating with the context in the ModelActor. I've included a barebones sample project. To reproduce the issue, tap the 'Background Insert' button. You'll see logs that show items being inserted but the UI is not showing any data. I've tested on the just released iOS 18b3 seed (22A5307f). The sample project is here: https://hanchor.s3.amazonaws.com/misc/SwiftDataBackgroundV2.zip

Can't manage my sandbox account
Hi, I can't get into "manage" sandbox account. I either get to a screen to put my password in. Here there is no way to click "next" or "login". (I have tried pressing "enter" on my keyboard to no effect). Or I get directly into "Cannot Connect" page. I have tried this two days in a row. I have tried turning it off and on again. I have tried logging out and in. Device: iPhone 13 pro max, iOS: 16.0.3 (also tried the version before this)

TestFlight App uses wrong sandbox account for payment
I'm using TestFlight to test an app with payment/subscription functionality. I created sandbox accounts in AppStore Connect accordingly to be able to test the subscriptions. I'm logged in with the sandbox account. When I try to subscribe in the App the wrong account (this is my actual real AppleID) is used for the subscription although it is recognized that this is just a sandbox subscription. I tried: logging off/on into the sandbox account creating a totally new sandbox account trying to trigger the payment with no logged in sandbox account The result is always: in the payment popup it is stated that the purchase account will be my original AppleID and not a sandbox account. How can I switch the accounts? Is this a bug at Apple's side somehow?

Screen time API can be disabled easily
We have developed a Parental/Self control app using Screen time API. We have used individual authentication to authorize the app, using the instructions here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/familycontrols/authorizationcenter The problem is , that individual auth can be disabled easily , by the following steps: enter Settings app. in Settings app, click on the Parental/Self control app. click to disable screen time restriction. show the device owner's face/fingerprint. (or pin code) Why is that a problem: Parental control apps, or self-control apps, are about giving control to the software, To make it hard for the user to disable the restrictions. So using the flow I have introduced above, it's super-easy for a user to disable his Parental control restrictions, which misses the entire point of Parental/Self control idea. Furthermore, not only the user have the means to unlock his screen time restrictions, he also MUST have the means to unlock it. This makes Screen time (with individual auth) useless: I have a code ready to make a great parental control app for my clients, with amazing ideas, but I can't use the Screen time API unless this problem is fixed. Why child-parent auth is not enough: My clients are grownups people between ages of 15-40, that are interested in self-control, so they don't have iCloud child accounts. also, the child-parent auth solution forces my clients to give some control to other person, and my clients prefer their privacy. Some of them prefer self-control and not parental-control. What I suggest as a solution: 1: Give more options to users how to disable the Screen time restrictions. including: a second faceID / FingerPrint (that isn't the same as the one used to unlock the device) a second pin password. a string password 2: Give the users the option to choose to not have the device's owner Face/Finger/Pincode ID , as a method to disable the Screen time restrictions.

IMAP Extension XAPPLEPUSHSERVICE — Access to specific APNS Topic
Hi, I’m looking for guidance on enabling push notifications for new emails in the native iOS Mail app (com.apple.mobilemail). Currently, I send push notifications using macOS Server (formerly OS X Server) Mail, but since it has been discontinued and renewal is no longer possible, I want to transition to the standard method used by email providers to notify the stock Mail app about new messages. To achieve this, I need access to the com.apple.mobilemail.push.com.zuplu APNs topic. This follows the same pattern used by other providers: iCloud: com.apple.mobilemail.push.com.me.mail.castle Fastmail: com.apple.mobilemail.push.com.fastmail Since Fastmail (as a third-party provider) has access to this, I assume there is a way for independent mail providers to integrate with XAPPLEPUSHSERVICE. In the interest of a free market and fair competition, I trust that Apple provides a means for email providers to notify the stock Mail app of IMAP server changes, allowing it to fetch new messages instantly. Under EU competition law, particularly Article 102 TFEU, dominant companies must not engage in anti-competitive behavior, including restricting access to essential services in a discriminatory manner. Furthermore, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) explicitly prohibits gatekeepers from favoring their own services or restricting interoperability without justification. Any insights or official guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, DragonWork

URLSession is broken in iOS 18.4 RC Simulator
I'm seeing fully reproducible issues with URLSession on iOS 18.4 RC Simulator running from Xcode 16.3 RC. URLSession seems to get into a broken state after a second app run. The following sample succeeds in fetching the JSON on first app run but when the app is closed and ran again it fails with one of these errors: Error: Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1005 "The network connection was lost." Error: Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1001 "The request timed out." I'm wondering if this something related to my OS setup or is this due to internal URLSession changes in iOS 18.4. Already submitted as FB17006003. Sample code attached below: import SwiftUI @main struct NetworkIssue18_4App: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() } } } struct ContentView: View { @State private var message: String = "" var body: some View { VStack { Text(message) Button("Try Again") { Task { await fetch() } } } .task { await fetch() } } private func fetch() async { message = "Loading..." let url = URL(string: "https://poetrydb.org/title/Ozymandias/lines.json")! let session = URLSession.shared do { let response = try await session.data(from: url) print("Response: \(response)") message = "Success, data length: \(response.0.count)" } catch { print("Error: \(error)") message = "Error: \(error.localizedDescription)" } } }

Cancel subscription not working in TestFlight
Hi, I have deployed my app on Test Flight, I have two subscriptions, monthly and yearly. User can have one of them at a time and upgrade, downgrade to the other. Upgrade, downgrade, cancel from the Apple Settings worked fine in the sandbox environment when testing locally. Now when I have deployed the app on TestFlight, I was able to purchase the subscription successfully from my app. Now when I want to cancel my subscription from the Apple Settings it gives me the following error after confirming cancellation, 'Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later.' Also the other subscription offer (yearly) is also not shown to which I could upgrade, even though in the sandbox I was able to upgrade downgrade from the settings. Another thing I have noticed is that the app Icon or name is not shown anywhere in settings with the subscription. Instead of app icon only empty square is shown. Even though app icon shows fine everywhere else. Can someone please help me figure out this issue?

iCloud Sync not working with iPhone, works fine for Mac.
I've been working on an app. It uses iCloud syncing. 48 hours ago everything was working 100%. Make a change on the iPhone it immediately changed on the Mac. Change on the Mac, it immediately changed on the iPhone. I didn't work on it yesterday. I updated to iOS26.4 on the iPhone and 26.4 on the Mac yesterday instead. Today, I pull up the project again. I made NO changes to the code or settings. Make a change on the iPhone it immediately updates on the Mac. Make a change on the Mac, nothing happens on the iPhone. I've waited an hour, and the change never happens. If you leave the iPhone app, then return, it updates as it should. It appears that iCloud's silent notification is to being received by the iPhone. Anyone else having the issue? Is there something new with iOS 26.4 that needs to be adjusted to get this to work? Again, works flawlessly with the Mac, just not with the iPhone.

iOS 26.2 RC DeviceActivityMonitor.eventDidReachThreshold regression?
Hi there, Starting with iOS 26.2 RC, all my DeviceActivityMonitor.eventDidReachThreshold get activated immediately as I pick up my iPhone for the first time, two nights in a row. Feedback: FB21267341 There's always a chance something odd is happening to my device in particular (although I can't recall making any changes here and the debug logs point to the issue), but just getting this out there ASAP in case others are seeing this (or haven't tried!), and it's critical as this is the RC. DeviceActivityMonitor.eventDidReachThreshold issues also mentioned here: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/793747; but I believe they are different and were potentially fixed in iOS 26.1, but it points to this part of the technology having issues and maybe someone from Apple has been tweaking it.

Shape detection for other apps?
When selecting a stroke path for object on PKCanvas, the option "Snap to Shape" appears. I understand this function is still in beta and has not made available natively to other PencilKit app. Is there a way using Stroke API to call this function directly after the user hold pencil for half a second when stroke is done drawing, just like how it behaves in native apps?

Using Wallet.app to open doors with NFC reader
G'day. At my office the doors are locked with an NFC reader. We carry around a little NFC tag on our key chains which will read out a number and this then will open the door if the number matches a number in the database. I am tired of carrying around the tag, people keep loosing it, forgetting it and it would be nice to open the door using a Phone - which we tend to always have on us. So I used a credit card which is NFC enabled to readout the NFC information, added this number to the database and can now open doors using my credit card. This is pretty cool. If I forget my keys (most likely they will be on the desk but silly me left the desk without them), I may have my wallet with me. Then I tried Wallet.app on my iPhone and select the same credit card. However the door doesn't open. When looking in the door software I noticed that the tags will always transmit the same number. So does my credit card. However Wallet.app will read out 4 readings (or maybe just one very long one) and they are always different. So I can not make them match with the door database. Any ideas how to make this work? Can I give somehow wallet.app an NFC number which I can then add to my door database? Or how come the credit card and the very same one in wallet.app don't match? Thanks for your help! Would be neat if I could make this work out. This will make a lot of people happy at my office! Cheers!

Crash in URLSessionConfiguration init in Xcode 26.0 beta (17A5241e)
It's not yet fully clear why and when does this crash occur, but I'm creating this post so there's a centralized thread for this. Some hints collected so far: The crash is occurring for existing Xcode projects opened with new Xcode 26.0 beta (17A5241e); no one's been able to reproduce on a project created in Xcode 26. I even tried creating a project with Xcode 16.2 and open it in Xcode 26, but it's all working fine there (don't have older Xcode at the moment, to try with many versions) It crashes right at the line of code that initializes URLSessionConfiguration. If you call URLSession() without parameters (which is deprecated as of iOS 13), the session initializes without the crash. It's NOT occurring only for libraries installed through package manages. In a project where it crashes, one should be able to reproduce by adding URLSessionConfiguration.default as the first line in didFinishLaunchingWithOptions It crashes when running an app on an iOS 26 simulator. (I don't have a device running beta iOS 26 to test on it!) It's working fine when running the app on a simulator or a device running iOS 18 or older. Related issue on Firebase GitHub repo: https://github.com/firebase/firebase-ios-sdk/issues/14948 Sorry to not be able to provide more info at the moment. I wanted to report this so in case someone from Apple knows about it, we could at least get some feedback or workarounds, until fix is released -- and, to prevent us all from duplicating this report in repositories of each library, as this isn't related to libraries.

[Xcode 26 beta 4] Cannot receive device token from APNS using iOS 26 simulator
Since upgrading to Xcode 26 beta 4 and using the iOS 26 simulator for testing our app, we've stopped being able to receive device tokens for the simulator from the development APNS environment. The APNS environment is able to return meta device information (e.g. model, type, manufacturer) but there are no device tokens present. When running the same app using the iOS 18.5 simulator, we are able to register the device with the same APNS environment and receive a valid device token.

AppleID Login failing in virtualized OS
Logging in with my Apple ID anywhere in the system (feedback assistant, Xcode, iCloud, etc.) fails when running under virtualization. Is this a known 'issue'? (networking in general is working fine)

iOS 26.2 RC DeviceActivityMonitor.eventDidReachThreshold regression?

Shortcuts Automation Trigger Transaction Timeouts
Description The Shortcut Automation Trigger Transaction frequently times out, ultimately causing the shortcut automation to fail. Please see the attached trace for details. Additionally, the Trigger is activated even when the Transaction is declined. Details In the trace I see the error: [WFWalletTransactionProvider observeForUpdatesWithInitialTransactionIfNeeded:transactionIdentifier:completion:]_block_invoke Hit timeout waiting for transaction with identifier: <private>, finishing.

Open parent app from ShieldAction extension in iOS
When I tap on one of the buttons in the ShieldAction extension I want to close the shield and open the parent app instead of the shielded app. Is there any way of doing this using the Screen Time API? class ShieldActionExtension: ShieldActionDelegate {      override func handle(action: ShieldAction, for application: ApplicationToken, completionHandler: @escaping (ShieldActionResponse) -> Void) {     // Handle the action as needed.           let store = ManagedSettingsStore()               switch action {     case .primaryButtonPressed:       //TODO - open parent app       completionHandler(.defer)     case .secondaryButtonPressed:       //remove shield       store.shield.applications?.remove(application)       completionHandler(.defer)         @unknown default:       fatalError()     }   }   }
