StoreKit 2 - Is it necessary to finish unverified transactions?
The sample code provided in https://developer.apple.com/wwdc21/10114 doesn't appear to call finish() on unverified transactions, and I haven't been able to find any documentation regarding what to do with unfinished transactions. However, Apple has always emphasized the importance of finishing transactions, and since a transaction object is provided even with the unverified state, I'd love some guidance!

URLSession download looping indefinitely until it times out
Hi, I’m trying to download a remote file in the background, but I keep getting a strange behaviour where URLSession download my file indefinitely during a few minutes, without calling urlSession(_:downloadTask:didFinishDownloadingTo:) until the download eventually times out. To find out that it’s looping, I’ve observed the total bytes written on disk by implementing urlSession(_:downloadTask:didWriteData:totalBytesWritten:totalBytesExpectedToWrite:). Note that I can't know the size of the file. The server is not able to calculate the size. Below is my implementation. I create an instance of URLSession like this: private lazy var session: URLSession = { let configuration = URLSessionConfiguration.background(withIdentifier: backgroundIdentifier) configuration.isDiscretionary = false configuration.sessionSendsLaunchEvents = true return URLSession(configuration: configuration, delegate: self, delegateQueue: nil) }() My service is using async/await so I have implemented an AsyncThrowingStream : private var downloadTask: URLSessionDownloadTask? private var continuation: AsyncThrowingStream<(URL, URLResponse), Error>.Continuation? private var stream: AsyncThrowingStream<(URL, URLResponse), Error> { AsyncThrowingStream<(URL, URLResponse), Error> { continuation in self.continuation = continuation self.continuation?.onTermination = { @Sendable [weak self] data in self?.downloadTask?.cancel() } downloadTask?.resume() } } Then to start the download, I do : private func download(with request: URLRequest) async throws -> (URL, URLResponse) { do { downloadTask = session.downloadTask(with: request) for try await (url, response) in stream { return (url, response) } throw NetworkingError.couldNotBuildRequest } catch { throw error } } Then in the delegate : public func urlSession(_ session: URLSession, downloadTask: URLSessionDownloadTask, didFinishDownloadingTo location: URL) { guard let response = downloadTask.response, downloadTask.error == nil, (response as? HTTPURLResponse)?.statusCode == 200 else { continuation?.finish(throwing: downloadTask.error) return } do { let documentsURL = try FileManager.default.url(for: .documentDirectory, in: .userDomainMask, appropriateFor: nil, create: false) let savedURL = documentsURL.appendingPathComponent(location.lastPathComponent) try FileManager.default.moveItem(at: location, to: savedURL) continuation?.yield((savedURL, response)) continuation?.finish() } catch { continuation?.finish(throwing: error) } } I also tried to replace let configuration = URLSessionConfiguration.background(withIdentifier: backgroundIdentifier) by let configuration = URLSessionConfiguration.default and this time I get a different error at the end of the download: Task <0457F755-9C52-4CFB-BDB2-F378D0C94912>.<1> failed strict content length check - expected: 0, received: 530692, received (uncompressed): 0 Task <0457F755-9C52-4CFB-BDB2-F378D0C94912>.<1> finished with error [-1005] Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1005 "The network connection was lost." The download works fine in Chrome/Safari/Chrome or Postman. My code used to work a couple of weeks before, so I expect something has changed on the server side, but I can’t find what, and I don’t get much help from the guys on the server side. Has anyone an idea of what’s going on?

iOS companion app with no Watch connected
Based on Cooordinate with the companion app in this article by Apple https://developer.apple.com/documentation/healthkit/running-workout-sessions if a workout were to be started on the iPhone companion app but with no Watch available, given HKLiveWorkoutBuilder not available in iOS, does the iPhone app need to implement it's own workout tracking such as a timer for counting the elapsed time and location updates for distance and GPS tracking? If so in an instance where a paired Apple Watch were to exist and the workout is continued in the Watch app should the iPhone companion app stop this custom workout tracking and revert to the mirrored workout from the Watch to ensure accurate and synchronised data between the apps?

Mac can't find or register NE App Extension without App Sandbox entitlement
Recently, while developing a network extension on macOS, I encountered a very interesting issue. When the App Sandbox entitlement is included, the NE (Network Extension) can be called and run normally. However, when the App Sandbox is removed, with everything else remaining unchanged, an error occurs. The logs are as follows: Failed to find an app extension with identifier app.acmeVpnM.extension and extension point com.apple.networkextension.packet-tunnel: (null) Found 0 registrations for app.acmeVpnM.extension (com.apple.networkextension.packet-tunnel) If you add app sandbox, it will run normally. this is my container app entitlement this is my NE extension (without App SandBox) I want to know the reason for this. App sandbox shouldn't be mandatory. How can I make my NE run in an environment without app sandbox?

Applinks failing
Hello, We're facing an issue with app links failing and falling back to browser website journeys. Our apple-app-site-association file is hosted publicly and the app to app journeys have been working correctly up to very recently - we are trying to identify any potential network infra changes that could have impacted the Apple CDN being able to retrieve the apple-app-site-association file. We can see in the iPhone OS logs that the links cannot be verified by the swcd process, and using the app-site-association.cdn-apple.com/a/v1 api via curl can also see the CDN has no record of the AASA file. Due to the traffic being SSL and to a high volume enterprise site it is difficult for use to trace activity through anything other that the source IPs - we cannot filter on user-agent for "AASA-Bot/1.0.0" as breaking the SSL would be impactful due to the load. Is it possible to get a network range used by the Apple CDN to retrieve the AASA file as this would help us identify potential blocking behaviour? Thank you.

Cannot see support instruction pages or entitlement request page for external purchase links.
Hello! I am trying to get my app set up to support external payments. The snag I am hitting at the moment is it seems that relevant pages are not accessible? There is this old EU doc https://developer.apple.com/support/apps-using-alternative-payment-providers-in-the-eu/ But the more updated US doc titled "Distributing apps in the U.S. that provide an external purchase link - Support" is not available where it should be https://developer.apple.com/support/storekit-external-entitlement-us/ In addition the link for requesting the entitlement seems to be broken https://developer.apple.com/contact/request/storekit-external-entitlement-us/ Any idea how one can access these? Perhaps this is just a temporary error?

Strange Live Activity Occurrence Behavior
I am seeing a really weird behavior with Live Activities. The Live Activity is always appearing on the simulator. However the Live Activity is only appearing on my physical device when there is no other widget in the widget bundle shown below. @main struct HoerspielWidgetsBundle: WidgetBundle { var body: some Widget { // Uncomment the line below and the Live Activity will no longer appear // UpNextWidget() PlaybackLiveActivity() } } Annotating that var with @WidgetBundle has no effect. There are no logs indicating an error, the function to request a Live Activity does not throw and the status of the activity is active. Both the widget and the Live Activity are working fine otherwise. NSSupportsLiveActivities is set to true in the correct Info.plist file. I am not running any beta software and the physical iPhone is on the newest version (iOS 18.5). Using the template when adding a new target in Xcode, I was able to set up a similar app where the Live Activity works as expected. I am really at a loss here which additional information I should provide or how this issue can be resolved. Thank you for your help.

Mic Button in Microsoft Web Chat Control Unresponsive in WKWebView After App Returns from Background (iOS)
We are integrating the Microsoft Web Chat Control inside a WKWebView in our iOS application. The microphone button (used for speech input) works as expected when the app is active. However, we are facing an issue when the app is sent to the background and then brought back to the foreground. Issue Details: When the app returns from background to foreground: 🔹 The mic button becomes unresponsive (taps are not recognized). 🔹 No permission prompt or speech functionality is triggered. 🔹 Other elements of the Web Chat control continue to work fine. This issue seems isolated to iOS and WKWebView usage. We have verified that microphone permissions are granted and there are no system-level blocks. Symbol not found: _$sSo22CLLocationCoordinate2DVSE12CoreLocationMc when building for visionOS 2.5 with Xcode 16.3
Hello, I'm encountering a runtime crash when building my visionOS app with Xcode 16.3 for visionOS 2.5. Our existing AppStore/Testflight app is also instantly crashing on visionOS 2.5 when opened but works fine on e.g visionOS 2.4. The app builds successfully but crashes on launch with this symbol lookup error (slightly adjusted because the forum complained regarding sensitive data): Symbol not found: _$sSo22CLLocationCoordinate2DVSE12CoreLocationMc Referenced from: <XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX> /private/var/containers/Bundle/Application/XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX/MyApp.app/MyApp.debug.dylib Expected in: <XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX> /usr/lib/swift/libswiftCoreLocation.dylib dyld config: DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/system/introspection DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=/usr/lib/libLogRedirect.dylib:/usr/lib/libBacktraceRecording.dylib:/usr/lib/libMainThreadChecker.dylib:/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GPUToolsCapture.framework/GPUToolsCapture:/usr/lib/libViewDebuggerSupport.dylib I've already implemented my own Codable conformance for CLLocationCoordinate2D: extension CLLocationCoordinate2D: Codable { // implementation details... } This worked fine on previous visionOS/Xcode versions. Has anyone encountered this issue or found a solution? System details: macOS version: 15.3.2 Xcode version: 16.3 visionOS target: 2.5 Thank you!

NSMetadataQuery not searching subdirectories in external ubiquity container
Testing Environment: iOS 18.4.1 / macOS 15.4.1 I am working on an iOS project that aims to utilize the user's iCloud Drive documents directory to save a specific directory-based file structure. Essentially, the app would create a root directory where the user chooses in iCloud Drive, then it would populate user generated files in various levels of nested directories. I have been attempting to use NSMetadataQuery with various predicates and search scopes but haven't been able to get it to directly monitor changes to files or directories that are not in the root directory. Instead, it only monitors files or directories in the root directory, and any changes in a subdirectory are considered an update to the direct children of the root directory. Example iCloud Drive Documents (Not app's ubiquity container) User Created Root Directory (Being monitored) File A Directory A File B An insertion or deletion within Directory A would only return a notification with userInfo containing data for NSMetadataQueryUpdateChangedItemsKey relating to Directory A, and not the file or directory itself that was inserted or deleted. (Query results array also only contain the direct children.) I have tried all combinations of these search scopes and predicates with no luck: query.searchScopes = [ rootDirectoryURL, NSMetadataQueryUbiquitousDocumentsScope, NSMetadataQueryAccessibleUbiquitousExternalDocumentsScope, ] NSPredicate(value: true) NSPredicate(format: "%K LIKE '*.md'", NSMetadataItemFSNameKey) NSPredicate(format: "%K BEGINSWITH %@", NSMetadataItemPathKey, url.path(percentEncoded: false)) I do see these warnings in the console upon starting my query: [CRIT] UNREACHABLE: failed to get container URL for com.apple.CloudDocs [ERROR] couldn't fetch remote operation IDs: NSError: Cocoa 257 "The file couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it." "Error returned from daemon: Error Domain=com.apple.accounts Code=7 "(null)"" But I am not sure what to make of that, since it does act normally for finding updates in the root directory. Hopefully this isn't a limitation of the API, as the only alternative I could think of would be to have multiple queries running for each nested directory that I needed updates for.

MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 CoreGraphic.framework not find symbol
I recently needed to develop an application to obtain the window list, which requires Screen Recording permissions. Apple's official documentation mentions using the two functions CGPreflightScreenCaptureAccess and CGRequestScreenCaptureAccess to request permissions. These functions are stated to be available since version 10.15. However, when I used these two functions on a device running macOS 10.15.7, I encountered the errors shown in the attached screenshot. I used the nm tool to inspect the symbols in the CoreGraphics.framework and found that these two functions were not present. Could you help me understand why this is happening?

Xcode project that runs only once under xcode
I have an xcode project that runs fine under xcode the first time, but if I try to run it a second time it fails in trying to open a directory (as part if the observable view data in the view's environment). It throws an error saying "Interupted system call". I have no idea how to debug something like this, so any help would be welcomed. Thanks in advance, Rick

Matter request extension no long working for Thread devices
My app has been working fine until just recently, now it can not add Matter devices over Thread (Wifi commissioning still works). I didn't change anything on my side, so not sure if an update maybe changed things? In any case, reading through my logs (and i have the matter/thread debug profiles installed). it seems like the device is added to the thread network fine, and it looks to me like the phone is successfully commissioning the device to the Apple setup fabric, but then it seems to choke on this line and i don't think the device is actually added to the keychain/matter db, so it fails later on . error 12:18:03.369036-0700 homed [2610726604/1195614123(679130348)] failed to find metric hmmtrAccessoryMetricNameCommissioningAccessory to complete I can confirm the device does join my thread border router as its pingable, and it does not seem to be in setup mode anymore (light stops flashing), so i assume it thinks its commissioned. The device i'm pairing is a Onvis (matter certified) outlet to an espressif build of a OTBR. My phone is running 18.4.1 if that matters (no pun intended) . I have also cleared out existing Matter pairings from the phone, as well ensured the device was factory reset before every try. Here is a snippet of the log towards the end where is looks like pairing works, but then errors out. Can ManagedSettingsStore() block the app that configures it — and how to prevent it?
Hi everyone, I’m working with the ManagedSettingsStore API for managing Screen Time restrictions and I have a specific question: Is it possible for an app to block itself using ManagedSettingsStore() — for example, by applying an application category restriction or setting a specific block on its own bundle ID? If so, what strategies or best practices are recommended to avoid accidentally blocking the app itself while applying restrictions to other apps or categories? I haven’t found any official documentation confirming whether the system prevents self-blocking automatically or if this is something developers need to manage explicitly. Thanks for any clarification or advice you can provide!

Can't change iPhone watch app complication picker app name
I have an objective-c watch app and have added a swift widget style compilation to it and am having problems. The complication works fine but the name in the iPhone watch app complication picker stubbornly remains as the watchkit app name despite me trying various ways of changing it. Here are the various CF bundle name and display name values I am using: phone app values CFBundleIdentifier - com.Distribution-Systems-Associates.Tennis-Watch-v1 CFBundleName - $(PRODUCT_NAME) CFBundleDisplayName - Tennis Scorekeeper watchkit app CFBundleIdentifier - com.Distribution-Systems-Associates.Tennis-Watch-v1.watchkitapp CFBundleName - Tennis Scorekeeper CFBundleDisplayName - Tennis Scorekeeper WatchKit extension CFBundleIdentifier - com.Distribution-Systems-Associates.Tennis-Watch-v1.watchkitapp.watchkitextension CFBundleName - Tennis Scorekeeper CFBundleDisplayName - Tennis Scorekeeper __Watchkit complication __ CFBundleIdentifier - com.Distribution-Systems-Associates.Tennis-Watch-v1.watchkitapp.watchkitextension.Tennis-Watch-V1-Complication Changing the values in the complication doesn't seem to matter. Every other name in both my iPhone and watch apps are as expected. ChatGPT suggested that I try adding a localized name in the watchkit app but that didn't seem to do much of anything useful. I have run this though Chat quite a bit to see if I could get any accidental insights that way and while it has been interesting, it has also been not terribly helpful. I didn't post any of the complication code because that seems to be fine. However, I can do that if needed. The complication works as intended (starts the app). The various names everywhere else show up as intended. It's just that this one name refuses to be overridden. Thoughts?

Thoughts?

Unable to use integration features with Mac in a macOS 15.4 VM in Parallels Desktop
VirtIO provides macOS VM users on Intel with integrations like Shared Folders, Shared Clipboard or Drag and Drop files. After updating VM to macOS 15.4, the VirtIO is no longer available, and we see that the functionality listed above doesn't work. Please fix it.
