Unable to Start macOS VM via Virtualization API in a Sandboxed Launchd Service
I’m encountering an issue when trying to start a macOS VM using Apple’s Virtualization framework in a sandboxed environment. When I create a standalone Xcode project, the VM launches successfully. However, when I integrate the same code into my existing project—where the VM is launched by a service started via launchd and running in a sandbox—it fails with the following error: Internal Virtualization Error: Failed to issue USB HCI sandbox extension To resolve this, I tried adding the com.apple.security.device.usb entitlement. But after doing that, the app started crashing with the following trace : Application Specific Signatures: SYSCALL_SET_USERLAND_PROFILE Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 libsystem_secinit.dylib 0x19a7141bc _libsecinit_appsandbox.cold.9 + 84 1 libsystem_secinit.dylib 0x19a713324 _libsecinit_appsandbox + 2080 2 libsystem_trace.dylib 0x18c2326cc _os_activity_initiate_impl + 64 3 libsystem_secinit.dylib 0x19a712ab0 _libsecinit_initializer + 80 4 libSystem.B.dylib 0x19a72a32c libSystem_initializer + 280 5 dyld 0x18c162efc invocation function for block in dyld4::Loader::findAndRunAllInitializers(dyld4::RuntimeState&) const + 444 6 dyld 0x18c19f864 invocation function for block in dyld3::MachOAnalyzer::forEachInitializer(Diagnostics&, dyld3::MachOAnalyzer::VMAddrConverter const&, void (unsigned int) block_pointer, void const*) const + 324 7 dyld 0x18c1bf58c invocation function for block in mach_o::Header::forEachSection(void (mach_o::Header::SectionInfo const&, bool&) block_pointer) const + 240 8 dyld 0x18c1bc318 mach_o::Header::forEachLoadCommand(void (load_command const*, bool&) block_pointer) const + 208 9 dyld 0x18c1bda58 mach_o::Header::forEachSection(void (mach_o::Header::SectionInfo const&, bool&) block_pointer) const + 124 10 dyld 0x18c19f334 dyld3::MachOAnalyzer::forEachInitializer(Diagnostics&, dyld3::MachOAnalyzer::VMAddrConverter const&, void (unsigned int) block_pointer, void const*) const + 516 11 dyld 0x18c162cb4 dyld4::Loader::findAndRunAllInitializers(dyld4::RuntimeState&) const + 176 12 dyld 0x18c16e530 dyld4::PrebuiltLoader::runInitializers(dyld4::RuntimeState&) const + 44 13 dyld 0x18c1848b0 dyld4::APIs::runAllInitializersForMain() + 88 14 dyld 0x18c147e00 dyld4::prepare(dyld4::APIs&, mach_o::Header const*) + 3092 15 dyld 0x18c1471d8 dyld4::start(dyld4::KernelArgs*, void*, void*)::$_0::operator()() const + 236 16 dyld 0x18c146b4c start + 6000 I suspect this might be due to the provisioning profile, which doesn’t seem to include the required entitlement. However, I haven’t found a way to explicitly add this entitlement to the provisioning profile. My questions are: How can I add com.apple.security.device.usb to the provisioning profile? Is there a way to confirm that adding this entitlement would resolve the issue? Are there recommended steps to debug and test Virtualization framework usage in a sandboxed environment (especially when launched as a service)? I also tried disabling SIP and AMFI, but the crash still occurs. Is there a better way to work around or test this in development? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

How to Share Provisioning Profiles with Customers for macOS App Distribution
I am distributing a macOS application outside the App Store using Developer ID and need to provide provisioning profiles to customers for installation during the package installation process. I have two questions: How can I package and provide the provisioning profile(s) so that the customer can install them easily during the application installation process? Are there any best practices or tools that could simplify this step? In my case, there are multiple provisioning profiles. Should I instruct the customer to install each profile individually, or is there a way to combine them and have them installed all at once? Any guidance on the best practices for this process would be greatly appreciated.

Xcode Cloud MacOS app with restricted capability - cannot run tests
Xcode Cloud is unable to run unit tests for a MacOS target after adding a restricted capability (keychain-access-groups). Have tried setting both manual and automatic signing (with a Mac OS development profile). The tests run on my locally fine, but when pushed to Xcode Cloud the crash report indicates a Code Signing Issue, downloading the Artifact for Test Products for AppTests and viewing the app contents I noted that when built locally embedded.provisionprofile appears within the App/Contents that doesn't appear in Xcode Cloud. To reproduce, create a new MacOS app with a test plan, run a Test job (successfully runs) then add the capability for Keychain Sharing: <array> <string>$(AppIdentifierPrefix)com.transmedics.RemoteView.group</string> </array> to the entitlements. Run the job again and tests with the project fails in Xcode Cloud, with code signing issues in the crash report.

App Store Connect API
As of June 9, 2025 we are no longer able to automate the creation of our offline provisioning profiles that we used to do on a weekly basis for testing of our internal products offline. I am not sure if the isOfflineProfile was an undocumented attribute that we were using, or if it was deprecated or if the removal of that capability was an oversight. The release notes for 4.0 of the API don't mention a deprecation. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appstoreconnectapi/app-store-connect-api-4-0-release-notes When making the request to the v1/profiles endpoint to create the provisioning profile we now receive the following response: { "status": "409", "code": "ENTITY_ERROR.ATTRIBUTE.UNKNOWN", "title": "The provided entity includes an unknown attribute", "detail": "'isOfflineProfile' is not an attribute on the resource 'profiles'", "source": { "pointer": "/data/attributes/isOfflineProfile" } }

Provisioning Profile Missing In-App Purchase Entitlement (Despite Capability Enabled)
I'm facing a persistent issue with provisioning profiles not including the com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase entitlement, even though the In-App Purchase capability is clearly enabled in the Developer Portal for my app. What I’ve already done: Confirmed that the In-App Purchase capability is enabled in the App ID configuration Deleted all provisioning profiles locally (~/Library/MobileDevice/Provisioning Profiles) Regenerated both Development and App Store provisioning profiles from scratch Tried Xcode's automatic signing (after properly registering the device) Verified the provisioning profiles via Terminal (security cms -D -i ...) — the IAP entitlement is missing every time Recreated valid distribution and development certificates Cleaned the Xcode project and settings The result: Every attempt to build or archive the app in Xcode returns: Missing entitlement: com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase I've also opened a support case with Apple, but so far I’ve only been redirected to general documentation. Has anyone encountered this recently? Is there a known delay or sync issue on Apple’s side when enabling capabilities? Can the provisioning profile or entitlement data be manually refreshed by Apple? Is there any workaround that worked for you in this situation?

Xcode 26: Unable to get past "Automatic signing failed"
Xcode failed to provision this target. Please file a bug report at https://feedbackassistant.apple.com and include the Update Signing report from the Report navigator. Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: com.OctaneBuddy.ios" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.foundation-models entitlement. Getting pretty upset at not being able to deploy and test on my phone :/ Works just fine with another project/app though.

Device "..." isnt' registered in your developer account
Hi, I'm using Xcode 15.4. (always export as "Ad Hoc" with automatic signing) and just ran into a weird problem when I tried to run my app with the "play" button on a new iOS 18 iPhone: The build fails every time with the following error message in the "Signing & Capabilities" tab: Device "..." isnt' registered in your developer account. I added the iPhone's UDID to my developer account yesterday but I'm still getting the same error today. There's a "Register Device" button below the error message and when I click it, there are two new errors: There is a problem with the request entity: A device with number '...' already exists on this team. Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: ...." doesn't include the currently selected device "...." (Identifier ...) The "try again" button below the first part doesn't do anything. How do I fix this?

Provisioning Profile
I am experiencing a problem building an app. I am struggling to find out how to fix the issue. Provisioning profile "iOS Team Provisioning Profile: my-bundle-identifier-here" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase entitlement. In Xcode 16.2 building an app with a minimum iOS deployment of iOS 16.6. In Developer, my Provisioning Profile says: Enabled Capabilities = In-App Purchase Status = Active Expires = 2026/04/02 Is anyone able to shed light on this for me please?

"Provisioning profile does not allow this device" on Sequoia 15.2 VM
After upgrading the virtual machines used for building and testing our macOS application, it seems that something new in Sequoia is preventing virtual machines from running anything signed with a Mac Development certificate. At first glance the issue seems very similar to this thread, but it could be unrelated. We are using the tart toolset to build and run our VMs. People seem to be having related issues there with Sequoia in particular. I have added the VM's hardware UUID to the Devices list of our account. I have included that device in the devices list of our Mac Development provisioning profile. I have re-downloaded the profile, ensured that it is properly getting built into the app, and ensured that the hardware UUID of the VM matches the embedded provisioning profile: Virtual-Machine App.app/Contents % system_profiler SPHardwareDataType | grep UUID Hardware UUID: 0CAE034E-C837-53E6-BA67-3B2CC7AD3719 Virtual-Machine App.app/Contents % grep 0CAE034E-C837-53E6-BA67-3B2CC7AD3719 ../../App.app/Contents/embedded.provisionprofile Binary file ../../App.app/Contents/embedded.provisionprofile matches However, when I try to run the application, it fails, and while I have searched the system logs to find a more informative error message, the only thing I can find is that the profile doesn't match the device somehow: Virtual-Machine App.app/Contents % open ../../App.app The application cannot be opened for an unexpected reason, error=Error Domain=RBSRequestErrorDomain Code=5 "Launch failed." UserInfo={NSLocalizedFailureReason=Launch failed., NSUnderlyingError=0x6000039440f0 {Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=153 "Unknown error: 153" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Launchd job spawn failed}}} Virtual-Machine App.app/Contents % log show --info --debug --signpost --last 3m | grep -i embedded.provisionprofile 2025-01-21 16:33:32.369829+0000 0x65ba Error 0x0 2872 7 taskgated-helper: (ConfigurationProfiles) [com.apple.ManagedClient:ProvisioningProfiles] embedded provisioning profile not valid: file:///private/tmp/builds/app/.caches/Xcode/DerivedData/Build/Products/Debug/App.app/Contents/embedded.provisionprofile error: Error Domain=CPProfileManager Code=-212 "Provisioning profile does not allow this device." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Provisioning profile does not allow this device.} I don't understand why the provisioning profile wouldn't allow the device if the hardware UUID matches. I have also attempted to add the Provisioning UDID in the devices list instead, but the form rejects that value because it's a different format (the form specifically requests a hardware UUID for macOS development, and a provisioning UDID for everything else). If there is any debugging tool that lets me check a provisioning profile against the running hardware and print a more verbose reason for why it's not allowed on the device, please let me know. Otherwise I'd have to conclude that, since I haven't experienced this issue before on an earlier OS, it has something to do with virtual machines running macOS Sequoia. (The same Mac Development-signed application runs just fine on my MacBook Pro running 15.2, as well as the VM host, which is also running 15.2.) I have also tried resetting the VM's hardware UUID and adding that one to the devices list, to no effect. This is obviously seriously impacting our CI/CD pipelines to allow for proper UI testing of our application. If anyone is aware of any workarounds, I would love to hear them!

Apple Pay In-App Provisioning Development extended entitlement unable to select on create Provisioning Profile
We request your support in enabling the extended entitlement feature for our team when creating provisioning profiles. This is because we need to include the ApplePay In-App Provisioning Development extended entitlement in our Bancoagricola app. Currently, when creating new provisioning profiles, the screen to configure Additional Entitlements is not displayed for our team. However, we have verified with our provider HST (https://hst.com.br/) that this screen does appear in their Apple account. Thank you very much for your support.

Xcode 26: Cannot generate provisioning profile for Mac Catalyst app in macOS 26 VM
Filed FB17873536 for this, posting here for reach. I cannot create a provisioning profile to run my Mac Catalyst app on a macOS 26 VM for my project with automatically manage signing (Xcode Managed Profile) enabled. I keep getting an error that “There is a problem with the request entity A device with number '' already exists on this team.” Disabling the device in Certificates, Identifiers, & Profiles does not work; I get the prompt to register the device on the next build but it results in the same error. “Download Manual Profiles” does not work, either. Additionally, in developer beta 2 (macOS build 25A5295e, Xcode build 17A5241o), I now get a second error message that Provisioning profile "Mac Catalyst Team Provisioning Profile: doesn't include the currently selected device "Virtual Machine" (identifier ). Clearing out the existing files in ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/UserData/Provisioning Profiles/ didn’t work either. Steps to reproduce: Create and set up a macOS 26 VM in the latest version of UTM for Mac Install Xcode 26 in the VM and sign into your Apple ID in Xcode preferences Open a Mac Catalyst app’s Xcode project and attempt to build it An alert comes up that the device is not registered in the developer account. Click the Register button to register it The process fails with the error mentioned above and it’s impossible to build for Mac Catalyst after this point. (Sign to Run Locally is not an option for me because I use entitlements that remove that option) I would appreciate any advice on how to get this working. Hopefully I will not have to create an entirely new macOS 26 VM. Thank you!

iOS Team Provisioning Profile” Missing UIBackgroundModes Entitlement
I’m trying to enable Background Modes (specifically for audio, background fetch, remote notifications) in my iOS SwiftUI app, but I’m getting this error: Provisioning profile “iOS Team Provisioning Profile: [my app]” doesn’t include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement. On the developer website when I make the provision profile It doesnt give me the option to allow background modes. I added it to the sign in capabilities seccion in X code and matched the bundle ID to the provision profile and certificate etc but it still runs this error because the provision profile doesnt have the entitlements..

Provisioning profile doesn't support the Sign in with Apple capability.
Hi! I'm trying to add Sign in with Apple to my macOS app. I enabled this capability from the developer portal and created the corresponding certificate & provisioning profile (both of type Developer ID Application.) However, Xcode keeps prompting me that the profile doesn't support Sign in with Apple. If I enable Automatically manage signing from Xcode, I can build and run the app but not distribute. If I turn it off and use the profile I got, it just keeps showing the errors below and doesn't even let me build.

Provisioning Profile Missing Push Notification Entitlement (com.apple.developer.push-notifications) Despite Being Enabled
I'm running into an issue during the iOS build process for my app, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. ❗ The Problem When attempting to archive the app via EAS Build (Expo), the build fails with the following error: `Provisioning profile "HCF_AppStore_ProvisioningProfile" doesn't include the com.apple.developer.push-notifications entitlement. Profile qualification is using entitlement definitions that may be out of date. Connect to network to update.` What I’ve Already Done: Enabled Push Notifications capability for the App ID (com.rsmco.helpcreatefamilies) in the Apple Developer portal. Deleted and regenerated the App Store Provisioning Profile after enabling the capability. Confirmed the new profile is associated with the correct App ID and Distribution Certificate. Uploaded the new profile to EAS (Expo) and rebuilt the app. Yet the error persists during the Xcode archive step with Exit code 65. Additional Info: Provisioning Profile Name: HCF_AppStore_ProvisioningProfile App ID: com.rsmco.helpcreatefamilies Team: Reproductive Sciences Management Company, LLC Workflow: Expo EAS Build Capability causing issue: com.apple.developer.push-notifications

App Store code signing show "Beta Profile"
I encountered code signing issue with Apple Distribution certificate for both iOS and MacCatalyst. The app crashes with "Beta Profile". I followed this instruction to manually re-sign my ipa to confirm that I use the Apple Distribution and the correct Provisioning Profile. https://gist.github.com/WDUK/4239548f76bd77b2c4b0 When I double click on the Apple Distribution certificate in KeyChain Access, it shows "Extension: Apple Mac App Signing (Development)" and "Extension: Apple Developer Certificate (Submission)" I have been stuck in this issue for more than a month. I really need help because I do not know how to proceed further. Thank you.

Entitlement missing - Application is agent (UIElement)

Checking the entitlements, I do not see this entitlement anywhere. Where and how do I set this?

The specified iOS provisioning profile '' could not be found.
I have developed multiple applications in the past using windows Visual studio 2022 and have never had any issues during development. However this time I am receiving the same error The specified iOS provisioning profile '{profile}' could not be found. Please enable Automatic Provisioning from the iOS Bundle Signing page. Everytime I try to deploy even though I can see that all the appropriate entries are in my apple developer portal, and I can see the profiles have been automatically downloaded to my computer. (The App identifier also matches the one establisehd in the apple developer portal and is linked to the profile). The only thing I can think of, is that my renewal of my developer account got rejected by my bank at first, but on another attempt (about 2 weeks ago) it all went through fine.

As of June 9, 2025 we are no longer able to automate the creation of our offline provisioning profiles that we used to do on a weekly basis for testing of our internal products offline. I am not sure if the isOfflineProfile was an undocumented attribute that we were using, or if it was deprecated or if the removal of that capability was an oversight. The release notes for 4.0 of the API don't mention a deprecation. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appstoreconnectapi/app-store-connect-api-4-0-release-notes When making the request to the v1/profiles endpoint to create the provisioning profile we now receive the following response: { "status": "409", "code": "ENTITY_ERROR.ATTRIBUTE.UNKNOWN", "title": "The provided entity includes an unknown attribute", "detail": "'isOfflineProfile' is not an attribute on the resource 'profiles'", "source": { "pointer": "/data/attributes/isOfflineProfile" } }

Thank you.
